If you want to talk reliability; how long has the 5.0 been around vs the 4.6 (ahem, police, taxi)? Well we all know the answer there.

On a subjective note, the 5.0 just can't make that deep tone like the 4.6 <<<< Coming from a guy that could have bought anything he wanted, I bought 4.6 mainly due to sound and I really didn't want another 6 speed manny like my Focus ST had. Five is enough on the street as it was on the track when I was running one 6 years ago.

Not taking away anything from the 5.0. Just not my choice.

It's less than 390 tq stock.... My 2013 is making 383 tq and that's with being tuned. So stock is going to be a bit less maybe in the 360s. Not that it really matters though... :P

Well I took your advice a drove several versions of the Mustang including a 5.0 with stick, a 5.0 with auto, and a 4.6 with stick. The 5.0 with the stick was a beast - great ride. I also liked the 4.6 with the stick which may be old but sure as hell ain't slow.

I was less than thrilled with the auto. A set of paddle shifters might have changed my views But as they say you "gotta run what ya brung." In it's existing form, the auto is not for me.

Glad to know this forum is out there and full a lot of very helpful people.

Unless you find a 2010 with a blower you'd be happier with a 2011 and the Coyote platform. There is also a difference with interior materials (soft plastic). JMO

There's no difference with interior material between the 2010 and 2011's. I've got a loaded 2010 and FWIW, it's interior is nicer than most 2011+s.

I'd suggest getting what you can find a deal on and like. There's really no clear looser or winner. The 5.0 is nice, but I think I actually like the feel (and definitely the sound) of the 4.6 for everyday driving. It feels a little torqueier in the low end. 5.0 is going to have way better resale value IMO.

The Ford manual transmissions suck...both Tremec and the new Chinese ones. I'd personally get an Auto, but I'm in the minority.

I liked your evaluation Stangmole as I too thought the biggest difference between the 2011 and 2010 was the clear power difference of the 5.0. That said, the 4.6 had more than enough power for a daily driver.
I actually liked the 5 speed in the 4.6, better in fact than the trannie in the 5.0 but that was reasonable. It was the auto in the 2011 I drove I didn't like.

spot on
those manual boxes and clutches are dire..i'm 1000 times happier with the auto..the noises clunking and general roughness of those boxes was not good..auto is as smooth as butter..never a single noise or a single clunk to be heard

Never had a problem with my trans (2013) but you always hear more bad than good on forums.

you and your stang need to spend way more seat time together, lol. I got mine new November 2012 and now have 10,6xx on it. Just garaged it Saturday for the winter. No issues with my 5.0 or shifter what so ever, knock on wood, and my cars tuned, too. Just the pinion seal leak fixed under warranty and that's it.
