Default 5.0 and Snow

Curious if anyone takes their 5.0 out in the snow and how it handles. Ive been caught a few times in it, bone stock and anything over a 1/2 inch the car is just lost. Probably worse the my modded 04 with summer tires.

I have a worn Lincoln Ls as more of a DD and it handles amazing in the snow, just plows right out ice and all. Although it doesnt have an archaic rear, I assume that makes a huge difference.

I don't take mine out in the snow. That's what my Explorer is for.

I have mine as my only car at the moment
I have Goodyear ultra grip ICE WRT on the rears with the stock Pzero all seasons up front with 2 bags of sand in the trunk. The amount of trq the car has is the biggest disadvantage in bad weather.
it is a little tricky sometimes but so far it hasnt been to crazy. We have had a few snowstorms with crappy roads..the worst part I had was on a slight grade and no snow o ground was solid ice and pulling out I had the back end a tad bit sideways slipping but it kept going and pulled out. Its a car you have to be on your toes all the time in the bad weather. not like some cars that are just easy to drive with fwd or awd

14 gt here. bone stock, got a 8 inch snow storm here last night while I was at work. stock pzero all seasons and empty trunk and I got through it fine. lost traction on an incline...took time and patience for her to catch and she eventually did.

when I had my 07 I had to deal with a bad snow storm on summer tires because I just bought the car and didn't have cash for winter tires and I made out just fine. it just take patience (which I normally have none of haha)

If you do get snow tires, put them on all four corners. It makes no sense to put them on the rear wheels and then not on the wheels that actually steer the car. It's one area you do not want to cheap out on.

The Pzero stock tires have a pretty good rating as far as winter driving and snow. I only added snow tires in the rear just for extra traction because of the power of the car. Pulling out on a grade is tricky. I have yet to have front lose any traction. Only the rears even with winter tires

Driving in snow is all about tires, I drove my Brembo GT last winter on bald PZero's and it did ok. I picked up some 275/40/19 Cooper Zeon RS3 A's (all season) last spring. These tires saw snow for the first time a couple days ago and worked beautifully. It's still a RWD car and will slide around if your not careful but it has little trouble going through snow now.

I blew out on of my BBP summer PZeros Thursday before last and all I had that would hold air were my 28X10 drag slicks.

It started to snow the next day, the slushy around 0 kind, which is the worst. For the better part of a week, I made it around everywhere on those slicks with a little strategizing.

Now I have Michelin Pilot Sport AS3s on and so, I expect I'll have no further issues.

Unfortunately the mustang is my only car. It is AWFUL in the snow. I have a new set of Nitto 555's all the way around and it doesn't help (no weight in the trunk ether) the smallest patch of ice in the driveway will give me issues. I hate to spend good mod money on a 2nd beater truck...but I might have to.

The problem isn't your Mustang (I drove my 2006 and my 2013 through lots of snow with no added weight and no problems at all).

The problem is your tires. The Nitto 555 is a "summer oriented ultra high performance" tire. It won't have any traction in snow - probably gets pretty stiff and hard due to its design.

Save yourself some money and get a new set of wheels and tires that are more oriented to winter. Even all season tires are better than what you are running. I used the Pirelli Pzero Nero with no problems. Switched to the Nitto Motivo and liked those better for a number of reasons (quieter than the Pirelli for one)
