I am very new and My earlier reply was just a thought from my opinion being use to driving 6 speed auto's. what would be a good distance highway cruising speed/rpm? at 65 in 5th i'm at 2200 and seems a little high. could just be the Borla cat back noise. would you make a 100 mile trip on the highway above 2200? thanks.

4.10's will make you wish for a sixth gear, trust me.

Just get 4.10s and be done with it. Those that gripe about traction or MPG issues that come with gears are either one of two things:
1. don't know how to drive the car
2. don't know how to drive the car

edit- forgot one more: 3. should be driving a civic hybrid or Prius instead of a Mustang

Yeah! Forgive my humor though, I'm military and sometimes go overboard.

Unless you are dragstrip oriented, the best all around gear setup is 3.73 for the auto and 4.10 for the manual.

I've run countless hours of testing using Cartest2000 (vehicle simulator). One thing I've found is that the 05-10 Mustang GT's work best with 4.10 rear gears (best acceleration and time to speed). I've had an 06 with 3.55's and another 06 with 4.10's, both were fine but the second one with 4.10's was a rocket. Also it didn't get that much worse fuel economy. It had Flowmaster super 40's and didn't drone either.

For 11-14 Mustang GT's the ideal rear gear is 3.73 from simulation testing. With the 6 speed the gearing is a little shorter so it is similar to the 05-10's 4.10 rear gears.

I'd say don't worry about gas, throw in the 4.10's and have some fun. If you ever get an 11-14, 3.73's instead. 15+, no idea, haven't simulated one yet.
