Default Day 1 Just bought an 05 GT Convertible- A few codes I would like help with...

P0191, p0446, p0174, p0446, p0463

Just got home from buying this car. It's not perfect but I do like it. I've turned a few wrenches but only when I have to do so. My OBD2 reader tells me what the codes stand for but in all honesty most of it does not make sense to me.

Can you see why I would get all of these codes? Wondering if I should take the car to a local group that specializes in Mustangs. BTW: I am in Louisville , KY do you guys know of anyone good near me?

The car doesn't feel like it is getting the kind of power that it should. Runs fine but not a lot of go to it. It is an 05 GT Convertible with about 67,000 miles on it.

Any help and or guidance will be appreciated.

P0191- Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance
P0446- Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Control Circuit Malfunction
P0174- System Too Lean Bank 2
P0463- Fuel Level Sensor Circuit High Input

Could be a fuel pump problem, but I'd start with the cheapest things like the fuel cap, and fuel filter.
It could also be the alternator or battery failing, and not supplying the fuel pump with enough power. These cars are sensitive to failing alternators, and will throw crazy codes when not supplied with proper voltage.
Also, Someone could have run the car out of gas recently. Can your scanner clear codes? You should clear the codes, disconnect the battery for 1/2 hour, then drive it around and see if they return.

Sounds like the vacuum hose to the fuel rail pressure sensor is missing or torn, or there is a massive vacuum leak somewhere. I'd stat with the fuel rail sensor, pull off the hose, check to see if there is fuel in the hose, as that's a common issue.

Could also be a fuse, affecting all those systems.

Think I left out one very important tid bit of information.

This car shows Water Damage from 4 years ago and and over 35000 miles ago.

Does this change what you think I should look at? The rear end gearing makes noise. Especially when decelerating. And the car is not as fast as it should be. Other minor issues include a radio that went south and a speedometer that sometimes works and sometimes not. But the mileage stays current even when the gauge shows zero mph.

Considering a flood vehicle, wondering if the charcoal canister may have been soaked?

I'll go out and clear the codes and see what comes back.

Sounds like this car was flooded or pulled from a lake or something.

191: Check the vacuum to the fuel rail pressure sensor, if the hose looks ok, remove the hose start the engine and feel for vacuum.

446: evap solenoid on the driver shock tower. It too needs vacuum, but remove it and check inside the line going in. I've seen one clogged up there with a mud dauber nest (the hose was off, lol).

ok.. I found this thread.. http://www.f150online.com/forums/v8-...-fix-help.html
He also had codes P0191 and P0046 being thrown.
The root cause was the fuel pump.

"I have a 2006 2WD F150 XLT. Truck runs like its running out of gas once I hit 2100 - 2300 RPM's. Will idle forever. A P0191 code was being thrown so my mechanic REPLACED BOTH FUEL FILTERS, FUEL PUMP, SPARK PLUGS, FUEL PRESSURE SENSOR AND THE FUEL PUMP DRIVE MODULE. The problem has not changed. Called the ford dealership and they said, "change the coils." Mechanic never did since the problem is i am losing fuel pressure. The pressure went from 30+ PSI to 6 PSI when it hit 2100 RPM's. Fuel regulator was not replaced, but I have already put in $1400 in this... Any suggestions.... Oh yea. The other code is P0446 (evaporative emission system)."

"Ok Everyone, I want to thank you for all of your advice. I had just received my truck and it seems to be operating properly. I will give you a quick recap with the conclusion.
My truck was acting like it was running out of gas. It would only do this on a half of a tank. Took it to a mechanic who replaced the pump.
After that the problem got worse. He did a fuel pressure test and found that the truck loses pressure at 2100 RPM's going from 31 PSI to 6 PSI.
He then replaced both fuel filters, fuel pressure sensor and the spark plugs. Truck ran worse after this. He called Ford and they said Fuel Pump Drive Module (FPDM) needs replaced and the coils. He disagreed with the coils but replaced the FPDM. No luck. He then told me he gave up and to take it to Ford.
I took it to a different mechanic who did another pressure test and a voltage test on the pump. showed the pump with 13 volts and low pressure. He determined a defective fuel pump.
After removing my gas tank, he noticed that the tank and gas was horribly dirty, and vacuumed it out. As he began to replace the pump, he also discovered that the pump was installed improperly and the filter was really dirty.
After all this was replaced and $2200 later, the real issue was a $450 fuel pump that was defective from the factory and installed improperly.
I hope that this helps people in the future."
