My cd player is screwed up

Do you have a shaker 500/1000?
If you're like me, I wanted to keep the OEM system so, you can do what I did, order just the CD mechanism.

You'll have to take out the head unit and open it up to verify the part number of your CD changer. The part number to verify is in the second image. Green Circuit board, and the number that starts with 039-xxxx-xx. Your number may be totally different so you'll want to search whatever that number is. I've ordered a couple from AliExpress (one for my stang and one for a 2006 Escape) both worked awesome!
It's an easy swap. When you put the new one in and first turn the stereo on, you'll have to let the head unit do it's calibration and then you'll be all set!

yep and do NOT utilize those head unit refurbishing services that charge like $200 or more to refurb and/or add features to your existing system (like blutooth etc). They only clean the existing CD changer which jams due to age. It will work for a few months but then stop working again.

Well, I decided to put in a cd and let it work itself out. It started out skipping and acting weird. after about 10 minutes it started to get better. after a bit longer it was working ok. I would not recommend anybody use this cleaner (Maxell CD-340). I contacted Maxell and they blew me off. Has anybody used a cd lens cleaner in a Ford 6 disc player (mine is the Shaker 500) that worked OK? Glad I have "tunes" again.

No i haven't done that,
but, FYI:
the stock Ford CD players are notoriously cheap quality
(MANY have caused battery drain issues
(including myself,
where the player keeps trying to load CDs,
even when the engine is off, combined with the alarm system,)
killed my original battery
(& a replacement battery i got froze & the battery actually split into pieces one weekend,
but that's another story)
if you're looking for a replacement player/radio,
try a junkyard or salvage or online...
Raxiom makes a cd player unit for S197s,
that is even worse quality than the stock one.
don't get it, you'll be wasting your money

I'm in the same camp as Derf00, I want to keep the OEM system. I also agree that you should change the CD transport mechanism as soon as you can; or at least disconnect the Shaker if you're hearing the clicking sound as though it were trying to load a CD. The reason is that the system is part of the CanBus because of Speed Volume. This means that the PCM is constantly reading your speed and pinging the receiver to adjust the volume. This also means that the Shaker is never really turned off even though you think you turned it off. That's what killed Gravydog316's battery. The faulty CD transport is treated as a closed circuit by the PCM and your Shaker (and maybe several other related ignition-ON electronics) is drawing current without benefit of the alternator.

The drain issue for 05/06 mustangs was dircectly related to the Shaker stereos used in those years. 2007+ have a newer version of shaker (updated firmware) that fixed the problem.
The easy way to tell an 05/06 from a 07+ are the round *****. 05/06 ***** are just black. Most 07+ ***** are black with chrome trim.
The best way to tell which Shaker 500 you have is the first digit in the PN. Anything starting with 4, 5, or 6 is from 05/06 and will most likely have the same battery draw issue. Anything that starts with 7, 8, 9 is the updated version.
Example: 6R3T-18C815-HA. This is from an -05/06.
The last two letters of the head unit number have to do with EQ configuration for Coupe vs Vert, auto volume and time delay when selecting how the sound is played (Focus on Driver, focus on the Rear, or Standard). I don't recall which ones are vert and which ones are coupe.
Keep in mind that there are many letters and several Head units that fit the 05/06 mustang but may not have been actually for a Mustang. This means it may have options that may not have been available on a mustang or may not play nice with the Shacker 500 amps because it's from an entirely different vehicle.
Here's a list of all the PN for Mustang Shaker 500 HU.
