Default Stock Strut & Shocks

I plan on lowering my 2012 gt in a few months. Iv gotten a lot of conflicting answers on if i should be OK to re use my shocks and struts. Car has just about 50K and i plan on lowing it 1.25 to 1.5 inches all around. Everything looks to be in good condition suspension wise. do you guys think i will be ok?

I think 1.5in is the max you can go without replacing your shocks and struts.

I think you will enjoy it much more with some performance shocks and struts. doesn't have to be adjustable. the rear can easily bottom out with stock shocks.

The lowering moves the standard operating range to the edge of the designed ranges and beyond, and can cause the shocks/struts to wear out and fail prematurely.
Replace the stock ones with good quality dampers, as suggested, and enjoy the overall improvement in handling!

Depends on how your roads are... Here in Knoxville, TN they really suck. I had my FRPP-P springs on for 8 months, hit a bump and my stock struts AND strut mounts failed. Went with the Steeda ProAction shocks and struts. Really firm in the winter (not unbearable), but great as the weather has been warming up.

Your ride quality will eventually suck and you will have "porpoising", the bouncing up and down of the car. Do it all at one time, you will be grateful.

Having been in Mustangs that have been lowered with and without shocks/struts I would say replace the shocks/struts. You'll be happier in the end.

Koni's are on sale now. You can pick up a set of orange STRT's for like under $300. I would do it the first time, no sense going back in especially since every time you touch the front you need an alignment.

FYI one of the stock shock just blew out on me at 50K miles, no new springs or anything, it just puked it's guts. I would not run them with lowering springs, no chance.

Shocks & struts are not necessary if finances are tight, but you'll certainly want to upgrade them sooner or later. Either way, I'd strongly recommend this panhard bar to center the rear end after you lower the car.
