Yes, stock is 6250. Brenspeed set mine at 6800 which i thought was a bit high. Ive been running it set at 6500 and i still bounce off it if im not paying attention.

Rev limiter can be fun! I was North bound on Hwy 1 North of Bodega Bay where the road is tight, twisty, and slow ( for most people) and I was jammed up behind a "most people" saw my opportunity, very short stretch/opportunity, hammered the throttle, I was alongside the "most people" and the rev limiter kicked in!

How high is a "safe" setting if one was to increase the rev limiter on a stock engine?

I believe that the stock setting is the "safest" setting. It's when you start adding mods that you would want/need to change the rev limiter. If you purchase a tune for a specific mod, the tuner will reset the rev limiter for a higher limit, depending on the mod. When you start adding mods, like headers, cams...etc. the redline of the engine will change, therefore the rev limit will also change. At least that has been my experience.

Part of the problem with over revving an engine is valve float. Back in the 70s when manufacturers were lowering the compression ratios to 8:1 or less, valve float wasn't as much of a concern due to the simple fact that the piston wasn't traveling as close to the block deck. Now with higher compression, if you float a valve and it contacts the piston dome, breakage will occur, which is a very bad thing. Although, nowadays I don't believe valve float is as prevalent with overhead cams, although i believe it is still possible.

I'm sure Brenspeed feels that their setting of 6800 RPM is safe but I don't know and erred on the side of conservatism by resetting mine to 6500 as I stated above. I've bounced of it on numerous occasions with no ill affects. Personally, I probably should have set it a tad lower but whatever.

I have a Brenspeed tune for about 5 years and my rev limiter is set at 6250 like stock.. I've hit it a few times. I know for sure it's not 6800. I'm tempted to call and ask if I should set it a little higher. Not sure if power is still climbing that high?
