Yeah this is what it sounds like for sure. It's just strange that it is intermittent and "random" when the motor decides to make a little pop and shake a little. You would think it would be constant.

I'm very happy to have VCT though, don't get me wrong I've heard the 3v can use all the help it can get in the low end but I wouldn't really know.. I drove a 92 Corolla until this mustang

Jpplaw explained the best way I know how.

There is nothing wrong with that plug you took out. Don't throw it out.

The noise you hear in the car is very common and characteristic of custom tuned S197s. THere have been guys that have tried to "fix" it, but in all honesty, there was nothing to fix and they never got it resolved.

Maybe a clogged injector? Small piece of debris in one if them? Also did you replace your fuel filter in your tune up? But I can imagine most of it is all in your head honestly

Yes, would definitely check the fuel filter as on my 95 when it was rough idling the fuel filter was clogged not giving the engine enough gas if not dirty gas throwing everything off. Pull it out and replace it there's no shame in a 20$ part to play it safe. Like they say, start with the small before working up to the expensive stuff. Worth a try right?
