Default Favorite clutch/flywheel?

I'm workin on gettin my 4.10's in right now (needs some more shims) but once I am done with that I will be ordering a new clutch/flywheel/DS in anticipation for some boost. I am currently looking at the Spec Stage 2 clutch kit and the Spec aluminum flywheel. I chose those based on advice from a friend who has a S-281E putting down 800bhp and he uses that clutch and says it holds up well enough to get some solid dyno runs. I figure if it can hold 800bhp on a dyno run it should serve me well at around 525 rwhp when I boost it.

Opinions?

The Spec Stage 2 and 2+ and known to have horendous issues shifting at high RPMs. If you search around on this website you will probably find horror stories about the part.

You will also find the favorite clutch/flywheel combo is what someone has. Which is what I'm going to do. But I chose mine after trial and error.

Flywheel does not really matter much. Some will say it does. But it really doesn't. I can't really think of someone who had an issue with a flywheel. The most dependable, strongest, longest lasting, best rated (IMO) with the lightest pedal pressure is the Mcloed RST. People on this and every other mustang forum with 500+ rwhp have beat the absolute **** out of this thing and I cannot recall anyone ever having a clutch related issue with the RST/RXT.

Do not get a Spec.

Yes. Cheap things cost too much.

You will be paying to have your tranny pulled and your car worked on after you get the piece of crap spec in there. Or you could put in an RST in and never worry about it again.

The clutch is one of the things you will put in your car that can have a huge effect on how the car drives. If it were me, I wouldn't replace it until my stock clutch fails.

Stock clutch got fried while getting dyno-tuned after installing my Whipple at 500+ rwhp. Went to a Spec Super Twin Disc with aluminum Flywheel for about 4 years. It tends to be very chatty and it certainly had a heavy pedal feel. Following install of my B326 Stroker , I decided to go with a Mcleod RXT Twin Disc with steel flywheel. Noticeably, It has much lighter pedal feel (like stock) and it's quieter.

Yeah, McLeod RXT here too, pedal feels the same as stock, but it holds everything. No slipping even at 900+RWHP. I suspect the Magnum XL transmission may break before the clutch slips.

I have an ACT in mine. They come in many different hp and tq ratings. Mine is rated for 580 ft lbs I believe. Which is more then my bolt in 06 gt needs. But a year and a half and going very strong!

How is it that it's the same as stock feel rated at 900hp? Just curious. I figured almost all the aftermarket clutches for the 3v and other stangs/ cars were way firmer. With that much extra hp rating

Twin disc, more surface area so you don't need as much compression of the disc to keep from slipping. Twice the grip, twice the price.
