Default Coyote oil pump......

I have heard that the OEM pump is a little prone to failure. What is it about that pump that makes it weak?

The stock powdered metal oil pump gears are prone to breakage if you either add a supercharger or run the engine past 7000rpm (basically beyond their design limits). Swapping billet oil pump gears would be cheap insurance against oil pump failure and a trashed engine.

Thanks. I imagine swapping out the oil pump IN THE CAR would be a royal pain.... but doable.

If your there, you should go ahead and get the 2013 gt500 pump housing, like 67 bucks, and has a billet backplate rather than cast so it wont flex and loose pressure around the pump
