Default clutch replacement

looking at some older car mags I have stashed in the throne the other day and came across one of the first reviews of the new GT500. it referenced the clutch as "feather light."

my clutch is anything but light, not that I want feather light, but the effort can be rough on my knee sometimes (getting old = no fun).

while I think I can and will handle it for a while, looking to the future I certainly would not mind a lighter clutch. the new GT500 clutch surely can handle plenty of power so I was thinking there may be a replacement clutch out there that's no so hard on the knee.

anyone out there replace their clutch with a unit that stands up to time and is not so heavy???

and speaking of the GT500 ....saw a new one for the first time yesterday on the way to the office and it was quite a sight, one bad looking car for sure!

You want the Mcleod RST. I's a twin disk clutch that has "like stock" pedal pressure. So if your clutch in your car is stock, it won't change much.

The clutch is a pain in the A** to install. Find a reputable shop or a shady Doctor to prescribe Xanax if doing it yourself.

what makes it so difficult to replace? I plan on doing this in less than a year or so, my car is about to turn 58k miles. I have ramps/jackstands and several jacks. ive read its a mother to get the engine and trans separated and not to lose the fluid line clips. already read up on that before installing the ss line. its not my daily so if it takes a week that's fine. I changed the clutch out in my 93' in a weekend, had to have a bit of help getting it back up to the engine tho. sorry if there is a sticky I haven't read on the clutch replacement.

Sorry for the late reply. Basically it's a pain to get to some bolts, especially the housing ones, add to that the driveshaft, the hydraulic clutch slave, the bleeding, and the weight of the damn transmission and you can see why a lift is a life saver. If you plan to do it on jackstands think again.

you could always fab up a pneumatic actuator in place of the slave cylinder, run a compressor off the belt and press a button for the clutch. lol just kidding, may not be very street compatible

Don't know what "old" as in "(getting old = no fun)" means as I'm only 62 myself.

But I can say I hated the clutch pedal in our '08 GT simply because to use it required a full straightening of the left leg. Well, the gas pedal to the floor is one thing, but the brake between them only goes so far unless there is a problem. So .... why should we have to press the clutch all the way. The cars back in the old days always had the clutch pedal set higher relaxed than the brake and it released cleanly before the floor.

I found a solution. I was gonna make my own .... but then I discovered the Bondra Pedal Extender. Pedal is more like it should be now. Doesn't change the effort, but it changes the angles in your thigh and knee as you use it.

interesting piece! I installed a ACT stage II in my 06 a few years back and it was sooo heavy it would literally hurt your foot after a drive of 20+ min. Grabbed like crazy, I think I could have pulled trailers with it.
