Many people have the Porter Cable 7424XP, and while it is a great polisher at an attractive price point, the XC3401 VRG takes things to another level. The XC3401 VRG is considered to be a step above the Porter Cable 7424XP and other similar dual action polishers which utilize a free floating spindle assembly. Unlike the 7424XP and others, the XC3401 VRG is a true dual action polisher which features a gear driven forced rotation in addition to its oscillating motion. In short, this equals more correcting ability for the end user which will deliver better overall results in much less time. This variable speed polisher has 6 speed settings which range from 3200-9600 OPM (orbits per minute) with a forced rotation speed range of 160-480 RPM.

Compared to the Porter Cable 7424XP’s max speed of 6800 OPM, this is going to offer quite a bit more correcting power. Like the Porter Cable, the XC3401 VRG is still very safe for your finish, and under normal circumstances will not burn paint or leave swirl marks. Other advantages over the Porter Cable include a variable speed trigger (as opposed to an on/off switch) with trigger lock, an integrated backing plate, a stronger power cord, as well as better overall ergonomics and build quality. This polisher also vibrates a lot less than the Porter Cable, which is known to be tough on one’s hands after a few hours of use.
