lightest weight tire/rim combo's reducing rotational mass
I am starting this new thread simply because I haven't found a good source for a specific weight for rims/tires for the 99-04 mustangs.
If you have ever weighed your specific rim with tire mounted, please include if the tire was brand new at the time when it was weighed. If it was used please include approximate tread depth.
I currently have 2 sets of wheels/rims:
1st set steeda 18x9 ultralites with New Avon Tech M550S(very cheap) 275/40/ZR18 weight=52lbs+/-(heavy)
2nd set FRPP 95 aluminum cobra R silver 17x9 with New Falken ZE512 275/40/ZR17 weight= 42lbs+/-
I bought a set of 18" steeda ultralite rims(I believe that they are 22lbs each for the silver painted rims) I just goofed up and put on a set thick tires. That made them very heavy. As soon as this set of tires wear out, I'm going with a 265/35/18 to see if the weight will match my 17" wheel/tire combo or atleast be close.
I recently ordered a pair of Nitto NT555R drag radials for the 17s for when I go to the strip. I looked into getting a set of Hoosiers but the rep from that company stated that they would be dangerous for daily driven use. I can update on the weight difference when they arrive.
I wouldn't mind going with a set of Weld racing Pro Stars ( 15x9, 17x8)and get that ultimate muscle car look, but the only problem with that is that there aren't that many tires that are really road friendly with those type rims. Any ideas?

I run 15x8, 15x5 on the street...but definately cant road race with that setup...but you drop a HUGE amount of rotating mass and the car will feel 500 pounds lighter.
Front tire/rim combo is something like 25-26 lbs...
Not really sure on the rears...rims are like 13.5 lbs...depending on the tire you run should be a fairly light combo
