Mach 1 Shifting Question
I am looking at a 2003 Mach 1 with 65,000 miles and I just took it for a test drive. I love the car but want to make sure that the trans is not garbage. It seems a little noisy (as in when the gears are being shifted) and I can feel it go into second, not as smooth as my t5. Is is common for these transmissions to have any problems? From what I can tell about the car it has not been beaten so I am just thinking it is the way the trans is. If someone could tell me they are like that I would feel a lot better. Thanks for the help.

Lol. Has not been beaten... Its a Mach 1, its definitely had some spirited driving. No the gear whine is luck of the draw, some do it, (like mine for example whines when i am slowing down in second and first; and also when im cruizing at like 40 mph) and some dont. It shouldn't go into a gear hard though, maybe reverse but not second for sure. You can find one easily with less than 65k miles though, I would try. I got mine for 15,500 with 42k miles. How much is the one your looking at?

I agree with what has been said but must also throw in that the 3650 is a piece of junk but at the same time mine has held up well for 100k of spirited driving and good times, you should be able to find a lower mile car though

I just ended up buying the car. It is awesome!!! This will be my 4th mustang I own 3 at the moment...lol I found out the weird feeling and sound was that the shifter was loose! Well this car is completely stock with the exception of a Steeda shifter. It has almost no flaws, maybe a hand full of tiny rock chips but that is to be expected with a car having 65k on it. I ended up getting it for less than 10k. I think it is a steal considering the condition and all that. I am also happy I get to put all the goodies on it. What are your opinions on exhaust? I like flowmasters but I think the SLP sound really bad a$$. Thanks for the help though.

depends what kind of midpipe your going to run. if your going to switch to an x then an SLP will be better than a chambered muffler like flows but if you want to keep an H (O/R or catted) then a chambered muffler is the way to go. i personally love the deep sound of an H with chambered mufflers.
here is mine with an O/R H and flowmaster super 40s

I agree, I love the way my 94 gt with a non catted bbk h-pipe and a flowmaster super 44 cat back sounds. I think with a car like a mustang it is better to have a deep sound because it is something ricers can't have. lol And who doesn't like the way old muscle cars sound? Thanks for the help!

I agree. The Mach 1 is an awesome car. That's a pretty good price for a Mach 1. Be sure to post some pictures. Good luck with it.

PICS....
The 3650 is a very very clunky trans...the most of any ford except maybe a 4 speed toploader which most people never get the chance to drive.
IM still confused as to why they left the T5's for the 3650's
