DO NOT put underdrive pulleys on your Mach 1!!

It's a crap shoot at best, with very little power to be gained, and a good way to blow the engine. Without going into a whole lot of details, the use of an underdrive crank pulley can cause increased harmonics (vibrations), that can crack the cast gearing on the oil pump resulting in catastrophic engine failure.

thanks for the info on the pulleys. I'll definitely refrain from doing that now.

Glad I posted about it because it was definitely one of the first things I was going to do.

So I clay bared the car today and applied a fresh coat of wax. I figured I'd try to wax the hood stripe since it was already messed up anyway, and I had nothing to lose.

Turns out applying a new coat of wax and wiping it off helped a lot. Most of the swirls and old dried wax seems to have disappeared. Still ordered a new stripe anyway, but it did help a lot.

Just a FYI for anyone else with this problem

I've seen a couple Machs that had the stripes painted on. Looks really good and last much longer. Just cost much more.

About those pulleys. I've heard many conflicting opinions on that one. I won't ever do them just because it has supposedly caused failures, but a Tech at my tuner told me that the reason they mess up is because people don't know what they are doing when they install them, or get POS pulleys. He said that if they are done right, that they are a great, safe mod. He's been a Ford Tech for 15 years and has been working for this tuner for a few years now. I still wouldn't risk it.

Is there not a rubber coupling to join those two pipes?

the elbow is the rubber coupler... it connects the throttle body to the cheap pvc pipe...

So you're saying it isn't working as advertised, or that it just won't install right?

Either way that's a bit disappointing, I really wanted to keep my shaker functional. Steeda also makes a kit but it's a bit more expensive and claims weaker results.

Thumbs up Stripes

New stripes seems like the best option for sure. Painted-even better IMO. Until then try to revive them a little with Turtle Wax ICE wax. It helped mine and they look as good as new now.
