Default Porsche 944 LS1 Swap...?

Well I have been contemplating selling my car again and starting a little project. I have only just begun to plan this however and still need to do some research but I want to swap either an LS1 or LS2 with a 6 spd into a 1986 or so Porsche 944 or 944 S1 and start a lil project with my Dad. I would be able to buy a Honda civic and save tons on insurence/gas/car payment because I pay 322/ month for insurence, 162 for car payment and I drive about 30 miles a day in my car to work and school and figure I would have around $800 a month to put into this project on top of about $10000 after my car sells. You guys have any comments/tips for project cars? This would be my first but my Dad has done a few including a completely trashed 67 Chevelle blacktop.

Goals:
- Low 12 to high 11 1/4 mile
- Track ready(Auto X and Lap Days)
- Finished in about a year
- Spend no more than $15k
- Streat legal

$800 a month toward your project car? Damn bro, I would put it towards something that will make money like a piece of land or real estate. If your dad was putting in the $800/month I could see it being a fun project. Unfortunately cars are one of the worst investments out there. I was thinking of trading my Mach not too long ago, but found that all the cars I like that are even comparable to the Mach come with a $400-500/month car payment. If I were you I'd keep the Mach and buy a commuter car for $2,500 - $5,000. If you want high 11's just get a 100 shot of nitrous and a tune, along with some drag radials.

I relized that an STi and EVO would be around 5k a year to insure plus a $300 car payment per month so those ideas are long gone. I also relized very quickly that I cannot afford a new 5.0 either lol. So now I have this idea...

Well because I cant afford to insure another car let alone buy one with the expenses I have now. And I would bet money my car wouldnt take a 100 shot for very long because the rearend will go... I'm 19 so real estate is out of the question until I move out... Plus that aint any fun. And that $800/ month or so is what I would have left over every month if I drove a Honda Civic coupe instead of my Mach 1 lol. Right now I usually have about 100 or so left over every month.

- I think that the only reason I want to do this is because I want to race(legally) and I want a car that hauls ***... And it would be much cheaper to do this project than to put more money into my Mach, look at my mod list real quick... Beleive it or not, I am into my car about $21000 and I bought the thing for $15500. It has gained maybe a little bit of top end, and a lifter tick, and a rearend noise, and list of other small anoyances that I just cant justify the monthy payments for. Call me weird but my car really stresses me out.

See there's something I dont get, you can't afford to drop a few hundred to build your rear end but you can afford 15k in the next year?? It seems like you just dont want your mach anymore and you're trying to get some support here. If you dont want it get rid of it, you're trying to give some excuses that you cant afford the insurance but you want to drop 15k in a new car with a motor swap because you want to race, doesn't make sense, the best financial decision is keeping the mach and modifying it to do what you want to do, and it can still be daily driven.

Another thing, how is it that you've spent $5500 in mods? You've got headers, midpipe, weld in flows, clutch, and an sct tuner with no tune. Im I missing something here?

Yes....against my will and it's freaking killing me. So much so that I'm not really giving the selling alot of effort. I wouldn't begin to get rid of her for another car. Was just giving ya a hard time. It's human nature to want something else when things go wrong with something we've gotten used to.
