Default Mach 1 Auto Trannies

So after a night of a little too much fun, the 4r75w in my 2004 Mach 1 seems to neutralize going into O/D. The fluid was fresh, had been changed about 2k miles ago and was still clean. It smelled really burnt, which indicated to me the clutches inside of the trans had been fried because of my stupidity. 1-2-3 is fine and reverse is fine as well. I shift into manual 2nd, and I have no engine braking.

Anyways, my question is are the 4r75 and the 4r70 interchangeable? I was able to source a 4r70w from an 02 GT with ~55k miles for around $400. I know the 03 Mach 1 had the 4r70w while the 04s got the 4r75. A friend of mine is a Ford technician and says for the most part, they are identical and will bolt up and function exactly the same. A rebuild isn't really an option at the moment, if its my only option I will just park the car until next spring and ride out the Alaskan winter in my beater civic.

Anybody have the answer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After test driving it just now, it doesn't seem to have any burning smell anymore. Is it possible the O/D servo just isn't engaging?
