Default First Track time with Mach 1

My first time at the track here at Topeka drag way on Friday night.
Couldn't get a grip at all; it rained Monday-Friday morning and it was the grand opening, so no real rubber was laid down.
Put my rear tires (275/40 NT555 Extreme ZR) at 27 psi and best I could muster was a 2.1 60 ft.
Slippery doesn't begin to describe it.
Not to mention every gear shift my tires broke looose, (even 3-4).
I'll wait until some more runs are made done the track and bringing DRs with me next time.

EDIT: oh, not to mention the 3/4 tank of gas I had. I know, I know, but it was a last minute invite and last I heard the track wasnt going to be opened due to it raining all week and that mornng. Go figure.

Friend's girlfriend took a rough video from her phone. Listen to the tires break loose during the 3-4 shift. That's how slippery the track was. Horrible. Im in the far lane, near lane is a S197.

Well, an average day at the track is better than a good day anywhere else, so I'm sure you had fun.

As far as how your car ran... it's tough man. 4.10s in a Mach 1 on the dragstrip? That part is good. NT555s with Sportline springs? Not so good.

The DRs will certainly help, but even then, the suspension is working against you. If you don't plan to do much drag racing, then I wouldn't worry about it. I'm sure the car looks great on Sportlines, but that car would run 12s pretty easily with a street/strip suspension setup.

This is my DD car, but I would like to hit the track every once and awhile. I am in need of new shocks (factory tokicos), Tokico D specs would be ok? Adjustability and all. Or would a set of coilovers be better?

Yeah man, the D-specs are fine. It's the sportlines that are hurting your weight transfer the most. Pro Kits transfer a little more weight and we carry UPR/Eibach springs which spec out the same as the Pro Kit springs. (they're made for us by Eibach) Coilovers give you even more flexibility. Their springs are available in different spring rates and lengths that will allow you to tailor them to your application.

Adjustable dampeners (you could try Strange 10-ways too?), different springs, and upgraded rear control arms would make a nice street/strip combo. If you disconnect the front swaybar on track days, that'll help a little too.

Oh, and an extra pair of wheels & tires for the back would make a huge improvement.

One thing I learned was to keep it simple. One change at a time so you can see what exactly is doing what. I'd say before you make any changes to the car you have to run lower psi and do a good 2nd gear burnout. Try 18-20 psi and see if there's any improvement at all. Seat time with your car is the most important part, but you're not even running a DR so that's very limiting. Launching and shiftpoints will be perfected after about another 100 passes or so, lol. It takes a while.
