I am a new member. I didn't know whether to show my car here or in the new member section. I reckon it should be OK here. Early Fastbacks are my favourite Mustangs. This one arrived in the UK from Texas a couple of years ago. It began life as a C code 4 speed car.
I bought the car last year and although it was mechanically tired and very scruffy, it has a totally rust free body. It needed total restoration, so we took it apart and decided to go down the restomod route.
The Engine Factory provided a new 5.0 350hp SEFI motor with front sump and dipstick location suitable for a 65 Mustang. Reverse rotation water pump to enable late model serpentine belts to be used. I could have ordered more powerful strokers etc, but I reckon 350hp is just right for this 65.
New WC T5 5 speed manual gearbox supplied by Summit Racing.
Headers and 2.5” exhaust supplied by Summit Racing.
The rear end is a new 9” nodular iron with 3.25 gears from Currie Enterprises.
Brakes are Wilwood drilled and slotted discs all round.
Front suspension is TCP coil over shock.
Torquethrust 15 x 7 wheels from Summit Racing with Pirelli tyres (I like European tyres)
Randalls power Rack and Pinion steering.
Vintage Air supplied the Air Conditioning system.
The excellent repro stock-look Mustang radio – with European frequencies, 250 watts, and iPod connection, came from Vintage Vibes.
The interior is stock black.
The T5 shifter is a copy of the original 4 speed shifter except fits the new 5 speed box. So it looks exactly as the original except the 5 speed pattern on the shifter.
The EFI control computer and wiring loom etc is all hidden, except under the hood where the view is all late 80's early 90's EFI.
Here's some more pics:
I reckon 5.0 Fox Mustangs, especially 1989 on with MAF make great donor cars for early restomods. This car uses 1989 Fox power steering pump hooked up to Randalls power Rack & Pinion, and the 1989 Air Con compressor works just fine with the Vintage Air A/C.
