Default Messed with some photos - Mustang **** inside

I got bored tonight so I decided to edit some pictures I took on my iPhone in the rain. Tried to get some cool pictures with the dark skies but it didn't work out like I hoped since it slowly started raining harder and still wasn't giving me the look I wanted. I thought maybe some editing could get me a little closer so I messed with them a few different ways. Tell me what y'all think.. I would definitely like some advice from the few folks that do take pictures professionally. For those interested, I used Corel Paint Shop Pro X to edit the pictures. Again, all cell phone photos.

As a pro photographer, let me start by saying - there's nothing wrong with "getting the shot" with a phone camera.

I'd say you over processed, but I do like the composition of the second to last photo, the low angle gives a nice sense of depth.

Nice car!

I agree with angrybits about the second from last pic, nice composiion...I also agree with over processing them. It's sort of hard to modulate a phone camera, pretty much a point and shoot setup, they are designed for general photography for the average person that wants to take a pic of whatever.
Now I can tell you about all sorts of tricks if you were using a 35mm digital camera,or for that matter,an old style 35mm film, for one,the use of a nuteral density filter will "punch" the image with clearity... usually a polorizing filter will be a filter of choice in removing stray (paint ) defractions,it also allows linear transmission of "directional" light rays and blocks UV at source.
I shoot a lot of products;from prepared food, fresh vegatables, fruits, fish, meats for supermarket flyers..to table top photography involving common everyday products, car oils, furniture,TV's ect.I also commercially shoot weddings, corporate appointments, christnings, child and family portraits, and nature scenes which I sell locally.
I use Nikon and Canon 35mm digital cameras, but for more serious work, relay on Hassleblad 2 1/4" X 2 1/4" dgital larger formats, and use photo shop to enhance final images.
Cars are a little harder to photograph, mostly because of "compression" caused by different lenses, anything less than 24mm (fisheye) causes lines to converge and distort "true" lines... 50mm lenses come close to what the human eye sees, but also creates roundness to auto bodies,Telephoto lenses (70mm and up compress depth of field) my prefrence is a 100mm tele, shoot at mid car level OR high, above the roof line, interchanging between a 50mm and a 100mm depending on the shot.
I also like f 11 to f16 for tele shots to give me enough depth of field and throw out foreground/background clutter and noise, f4 to f5.6 with 50mm.
I also use Metz flash set on manual at 1/4 power and "bounce off a fill card... the depth of color in car paints will saturate with fill flash giving it a "bolder" look and pops it out in the final image.
I find that you can get very good pics with cell phone cameras as long as there is sufficient light and less contrast( early evening light is best). If the sun is behind the car, then use auto flash to reduce frontal contrast... if the sun is to the front of the car, shoot from an off side to the left or right,so your light sensor picks up shadow areas in the side panels and will reduce contrast.
Hope this info will help you out, keep clicking!!!

Looks good bro!! The s197 loves the low angles, thanks for sharing the pics
We need to start up a bare-butt thread for all the spoiler deletes.
I'm signed up to get my holes filled in a couple of weeks...cant wait!

I didn't know you were a pro photographer, I thought you just worked with Yahoo! Sports. But cool. Yeah I was mostly just messing around with some features I found on the program (still exploring it because it is new to me). Now that I look at them they are quite over processed. Lol.

LOTS of info there I didn't want to quote it all. Haha. I would have never known all of that about the lenses. Never really thought about it but it makes sense about the sizes curving the lines. I have used my mom's Nikon before but I'm really not sure what model it is. My sig pic was taken with it with her x250 zoom lens almost at full zoom. But it was edited on Photobucket.

I would agree. We need to show some people how good these cars look without a spoiler. There are TONS of cars on the s197forum without spoilers! They know how to do it. Haha. I wish I had the money to fill them in.. School sucks sometimes.. Lol.

Thanks! Oddly enough I haven't been going for that look but I am starting to consider the Bullitt Grille. Haha. So maybe I am going for it subconsciously. Lol.

Yep, I minored in Art and majored in Engineering -- odd pair right? I tend to think of engineering as an art form hahaha. I am a Software Engineer for Yahoo but I've had my photography biz for about 10 years. Professionally certified by NYIP. I typically do product photography and other studio work (kinda similar to what 5.0GTCS does). Not into weddings -- too much work for the $$ and often lots of drama.

Most important place to start in photography is having an interest. Join photography forums and take a class -- it will help a lot.

As far as processing goes, just try to go subtly. Processing is best when you don't know its there.

Yeah I am still trying to figure out where I want my future to go. Right now I'm getting my associates in business and I have considered photography. But with that I would only be interested in cars pretty much so I don't think it would work out as a career.

It also helps to capture the best picture possible to work with. I just don't have a great program for the type of things I would like to do to pictures. Or at least I don't think I do. The program is really old.

Oh and I checked my mom's camera. It's a Nikon D60 with two lenses, an 18-55mm and a 55-200mm. It takes really good pictures, well.. to me anyway. Lol.

I'll post some other pictures I took with the D60 later with a little editing to bring out the colors a little more and let y'all check them out.
