Great New England Wings and Wheels Show
There's an opportunity to see some great warbirds and have your Mustang's picture taken with a P51. I was there today and the turnout was light, either the $20 entrance fee or the fact that so many people are getting ready to go back to school kept people away. Tomorrow hopefully will be different.
All proceeds will benefit the next edition of the Great New England Air Show at Westover Air Reserve Base, the Pioneer Valley USO, other military assistance organizations and the Springfield, MA Shriners’ Hospital for Children, so even though $20 is a little steep the money is going to worthwhile causes.
The warbirds alone are worth the price, and included a P-51 Mustang, P-40 Warhawk, F-4U Corsair, P-47 Thunderbolt, F-4F Wildcat, A-1 Skyraider, a C-47 that flew in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day, Hap Arnold's B-25, plus various trainers like the T-6 Texan. It is the largest gathering of WWII fighter planes outside of a museum I've ever seen. And you can walk right up and touch them.
They're flying out tomorrow starting at 5:00pm after the car show is over, and there's plenty of vantage points to watch them from. Nothing in the world sounds better than a P-51 firing up.
Here's the flyer.
