Default October 24, Joliet IL Autobahn, drive or ride...

We’ve scheduled a weekend event to close our Great Lakes region season: Saturday October 24 in Joliet, IL at Autobahn Country Club South Circuit.

I can offer driver participants an early bird special registration of $40 off (regularly $295) and free attendance to anyone who just wants a road trip and passenger hot laps (we can provide lunch for $15 each on-site, please rsvp for lunch).

We can offer two options to participate:

1.Participate in the full-day driver’s school, $255.00 for registrations prior to October 1st, OR

2.Road-trip to Autobahn
* Sign waiver
* Special parking area
* Check out the on-track action
* Passenger Hot-Laps at 11:00 AM – 11:50 AM
* Lunch 11:50 AM – 12:50 AM
* Opportunity for more rides in afternoon
* Depart whenever

Our events are non-competitive; with Hooked On Driving we do offer coaching and classroom but the bottom line is fun!

Best,

Rob

Wow, sounds like fun but I've never done anything like this before so I'm not familiar with how it works and who can get on the track. I race on the drag strip but never on a road course. I don't know if I'd fit in or just get in the way of faster cars. My car has some engine and drivetrain mods but no suspension improvements. Could you describe in more detail how it works.

Thanks,

-Jack-

Thanks for your question!
We group participants by experience, A-Beginner, B-Intermediate, C-Advanced.

By far the largest groups this year are beginners; you go at your own pace, we don't push you. We have experienced coaches who'll either ride in your car or you'll be following him. We start with a low speed no helmet touring session, go into classroom, then out on track, it's easy and tons of fun!

You rotate all day between on-track, class de-brief, then some down-time to chat and meet new people... everyone's cool, it's a family atmosphere.

Class is optional later in the day as we recognize folks are getting a little tired and may want more down time or to leave a little early.

We offer hot-lap rides with coaches during the coaches-only sessions for friends and family who are tagging along.

Think you get a rush from 13 seconds at the strip, how about 25 minutes at speed continuously?

Best,
Rob

ps, we're sponsored by Roush Performance and will be raffling a free case of Roush Fully Synthetic Motor Oil at lunchtime.

pps, my 2010 GT is totally stock, you don't need mods for fun at our events!

Thanks for the info Rob. I recently attended a track event that was held at Ford's proving grounds in Dearborn, in conjunction with Mustang Alley at the Woodward Dream Cruise, and got to do hot laps with a Ford test driver. We were offered rides in several hot vehicles such as, a Ford GT, Shelby GT and GT500, and a Focus built to the max for rallying. What a blast on a smallish road course hitting speeds over 100 with hairpin turns at the end of the straight. I was amazed at how these cars were able to stay on the road... they had fantastic grip.

That experience made me wish I could get on a track like that with my own car. No way could I gather up the nerve to attain those speeds though. But I know I could have a lot of fun if it wasn't too competitive.

I'm in metro Detroit so I am quite a distance from Joliet, IL. Waterford racetrack is not very far from me but I don't know if they offer the same sort of program. Do you know of any locations closer to Detroit that offer this sort of experience?

Thanks again for the info and good luck on the track.

We'll be there in the future though maybe not next year; we're concentrating on Metro Chicago first.

Default weather forecast

Weather looks dry though chilly... perfect for a season ending performance drive!

When was the last time you drove over the posted speed limit without worrying about receiving a speeding ticket?

Do you have a special "Get out of jail free" card? I don't... for the public roads, but I can grant you to drive as quickly as your abilities allow without concern for points accumulating on your driver's license....

... at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL on Saturday October 24!

Advanced Performance Drivers: Attention, our Advanced run group is lightly populated, register now and as of today you'd likely turn many laps without any traffic.

Saturday October 24 at Autobahn will also be a pretty cool HOD "Cars and Coffee" type event, so if you'd just like to check out the event there's no charge, just RSVP if you'd like to have lunch with us ($15.00 is for our caterer at Autobahn). We'll have plenty of coffee available for free. Plus, ask to get on the "hot-lap" ride list, first come, first served!

Call or email with questions!
