Swap 4.0 to 5.4?
#11
Eric (Plstang) changed his 4.6 in his GT to a 5.4. If you can't afford a GT500, don't even try this. He had quite a bit invested in his car. It was an awesome car, but money was no obstacle for him.

You can defiantly mod the 5.4L 3v out of the F150. I know a few have but the 4v will always be a better platform for high end HP.

Tanner girl, you'll need a plan...
If you have a $10K budget, you can make this happen with the Navigator mill and the GT500 6spd + the labor with electronics.
Get the 4 valves 5.4 (99/04) because it's good for 400 ponies with minor work.
Later on, you can Vortech this thing and have a beast.
Those Navi engines are available for $1500 from salvage yards. (LKQ etc...) so you'll have $8500 to do the rest.
Just make sure you have a good speed shop in your area to help you finalized all this.
Also, glad to see you learned a lot in the world of Modding young grasshopper, and fear isn't stopping your will
Just don't listen to tire kickers that say it's not worth it etc... those guys never achieve anything anyhow.
That mod is worth doing even if you had a GT so your sixxer makes it an even better candidate.

If this happens I plan on FI the 5.4 after I got my finances built back up. There are a few decent speed places in Tulsa that I have heard about. I guess I need to do some research.
So besides the rear end, motor, transmission, computer what other major components will I need? I know very vague question sorry guys.
Just looked up a few parts.
Navi motor refurbished - $3,000
TR6060 w/o clutch - $1,750
TR6060 w/ clutch - $3,000
Those prices don't sound terrible to me, and I know there are going to be A LOT more cost to this, but the basic components are cheaper than I was originally thinking.

Like I said, get a budget for all the parts and another one for the speed shop.
$6K between engine and tranny, I'm sure you can beat that.
Call FRPP tech line (800 663-5788) on Monday and tell them what you're up to...
They can cut a lot of guessing off for the shops.

It will take me awhile to be able to do this, but I think it will be completely worth it in the end.
