Swap 4.0 to 5.4?

Swap 4.0 to 5.4?
I think instead of doing FI this is the way I'm thinking of going. I thought of doing the 4.6, but I don't want to pay all the money to have the same HP as a stock GT. First of all, can I use a crate 5.4 without a supercharger and get decent HP? Then I was wondering if the tremec T-56 fit in our cars? This isn't something I'm planning on doing right away obviously, but I do plan on starting to save immediately if it is feasible to do. And no I don't want to trade in my car for a GT or GT500, so none of that. I searched for threads about this and came up empty handed, so sorry if I over looked something.

I know a few members have done it. Instead of using a Cobra long block, they actually used a Lincoln navigator 5.4. It's NA and there was something better about it that I can't remember for building an engine around. In any case, it's a lot of work to do.

I want to have a really good base to work from to build good power.
The sound of course is a plus. I wasn't wanting to use a motor directly from a GT500 because of the price, so the navigator 5.4 sounds good. I thought that I wanted to keep my 4.0, but this sounds just as good of a plan. Do you think I could get close to this swap with around a 10k budget?

If your going to be doing the work yourself. The modern electronics in these things can be a biotch.
You might be able to pull it off depending upon where you source your engine and transmission from. If you plan on pulling any real power I suggest the TR6060 or at least a good 6 speed.

If you can find a wrecked Navi it's the one of the better bang for your buck options out there. The engine out of the Navi is the 5.4L 4v non supercharged. Basically almost the same engine in the GT500. It's a much better platform for producing power than the 5.4L 3v in the F150.

Anytime you swap the engine your going to have to find compatable drive line components or ways to modify them. Drive shaft, transmission rear end will almost certainly have to be replaced with something else. Then the computer and wiring harness are another concern. In the long run it might be easier to buy a crate motor (which really does provide a solid bottom end). Engine swaps are costly unless you find all parts dirt cheap and install them yourself.

Tanner, I'm sure with modification a T56 would fit but they have cable clutches. 2005+ = hydraulic clutch.
I don't see a point in a 5.4 swap for your Tanner out of a navigator being it will be similar power of a 4.6 swap, but a 5.4 has more potential with FI but you will be spending about double what your car is worth!

I know that by the time I'm done with all of this I will have spent may more than my car is worth, but by the time I have all the funds avalible my car will be close to 100k miles. So all my warranties will have run out, and it would be nice to have a good project. I know the rear end will have to be replaced maybe with a GT rear end? If I did end up having to use a F-150 motor can those be made to make good HP? I want a 6 speed transmission after the swap, so would it be better to use a GT500 tranny or a 5.0? Sorry for all the questions I'm just trying to get a good price range set up.
