The age old question, build the 4.0 or swap in V8 (GT & sixers welcome!)

Swapping a V8 into your car would be too expensive. You said you got rid of your V8 partly do to the low MPG and hard clutch. If you swap in a V8 you're looking at the same problems again. Work the V6 or drive what you have.

The idea being that a built and balanced V8 pulling a 300lb lighter car would get about same MPG as the 4.0. As long as it got 24-26 highway I'd be fine with it.
But you are right about the clutch issues...I don't understand why they aren't adjustable? It's a hydraulic clutch for God's sake can't Ford just install a larger cylinder to drive the movement of the assemby?
I can't be the only person who ever complained about the stiff clutch in a Mustang GT TR3650 right? Any Ford service techs on here that can comment on this?
Thanks,
Tom

You want a stiff clutch try driving my truck, 92 ranger with a t-5 and aftermarket external slave. I can watch the firewall move about 1/8-1/4" each time its pushed in. Hydraulic really isn't adjustable unless you start playing around with different bore cylinders, and then you have to adjust the mounting point on the pedal too. Maybe you could try getting the clutch pedal assembly out of the new 5.0 or gt500 and use it with the helper spring?
As to MPG, SHOHORSE gets 28 mpg out of a 4.6 so 24-26 should be achievable. Start saving!

Wow clowe,
That's some crazy clutch effort on the Ranger...I guess I shouldn't complain but you know when your knee really hurts after you drive it every day you start to worry about it and l the long term effects.
Anyway I saw the thread about the cdv and haven't tried driving a new 2013 yet. I did drive a 2011 5.0 and it felt about the same effort as my TR3650.
Yep definitely have to set aside some down payment GT money, but have to get some mods done on the sixer to keep me happy for a while. You know how the disease works...
