my father and i are gonna build a 351w stroked to a 393.
a local engine builder will stoke it for 2650.00 balance and everything out the door.

now my question is can i install my stock h/c/i back onto the motor until i have enough funds for a set of afr 205's a custom cam and vic jr intake? or is the motor just going to be choked to **** and run like crap?

It'll be choked to ****. Are you planning on running EFI or carb?

ill be running carb at first maybe down the road switch to efi. my dad wants to go efi but its not his money hes spending.

so can i run it like that or am i gonna be doing harm to the motor?

also can i run stock 351w rods with arp bolts? this is somewhat a budget build. what horsepower/rpm are the stock rods with arp bolts rated too? if i cant run them safely then ill go to the 408 but i was just wondering what the common though on the durability was.

If you run 351 rods then it's not a stroker anymore.
You'll still have a bigger bore engine but the rods make the deal, hence the world stroke.

Seems like you guys want to put the car in front of the horses...
Get a stock mill in there for now and build your stroker on an engine stand till you get it all done.
Your list is good with 205 heads and Vic jr intake, it's a proven combo.
Roller Comp cam with high profile will make the motor breathe nicely.

in most cases your correct, but in the case with the 393 you use 302 pistons, 351w rods and a 393 crank. its refered to as the budget 393 stroker.

I see. I was thinking 408 since you mentioned it...

I have no idea about the 351 rod rating though, sorry.
I'm assuming the 302 pistons mean that the block is not bored over so only the crank is the performance part in your short block.
I can't see that combo pushing more than 400hp even with your heads and intake (which are overkill at this point) so I doubt you'll have problems with the rods...

You can use stock rods if you clean them up and shot peen them to relieve stress and use good bolts.
The kit I bought should be a cast scat crank, 'race-ready' rods, and forged 302 pistons and is supposedly good for up to 500hp normally aspirated. Probe Streetfighter GT 395 (.040 over).
Now if only the supplier would send me the right crank...
