Default 69 with straight 6 upgrade to 5.0 ho

So I have a 69 with a 250 in it and I got a couple of 5.0 blocks sitting around, The first had a blown head gasket and i am going to replace that and change it over to carberation (spelling?) I am going to be using a 7521 edelbrock air gap intake with a 600 cfm edelbrock carb. change the other things like bellhousing, yoke driveline and fuel pump and a t5 trani. and drive it like that. But while that is running I plan on building the other 5.0 that I have to make about 400hp. The question I have is there going to be an issue with the intake and carb on the stock 5.0 ho, that is out of an 87 gt?

If this is a stupid question, i apologize in advance, but isn't going from fuel injection to a carburetor kind of a downgrade?

Yes, but I want it to look more like a 69 setup when I open the hood, not something from the 80's and possibly down the road upgrade to a msd atomic efi maybe when prices come down a little bit.

Carburetor on a classic isn't a downgrade.^^^^^^^^^

Buuuuuut... 400hp out of a 5.0 ain't gonna happen...
You can either stroke it or blow it, or both, lol.
Your 87 mill will work fine with an Edelbrock intake and carb, it's just a matter of swapping.
Now, using a T5 is a mistake according to your future plans.
That tranny can't handle 300 ponies or more, and another mistake is to build it up to cope with higher horsepower... Tremec here I come!

you have a few options with the trans but i wouldnt recommend that stock t5 behind that 400hp motor, unless you drive it carefully... its usually a gamble. you have these options here.

T5z or Astro T5
TKO 500/600
T56 (Major mods) Im between the A5 or tko600
