Default 78 cobra ii V6 to V8

Hey guys new to the forum, glad to be here!

I have a 78 Cobra ii that I am looking to swap the 2.8 to a 5.0.

I have done some general research and it is looking like this is going to be a difficult swap. It appears that everything needs to be specific to the car.
So far I have gathered that I am going to need an oil pan, new motor and frame mounts and a bell housing.

My main question is that I have a C4 trans with the 2.8. can I use the bell housing from the 2.8 on a 5.0? Im planing on getting a 5.0 from around the same time period if that helps.

Any information about this swap would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Also I'm unsure about the trans being a C4. I have a good feeling it is though.

I had a 1974 Mustang II that I took out the 2.3L and put in a 5.0 liter, it had been my moms car and she worked less than 1/4 mile from the house, so it never got warmed up.
There was so much sludge (white milky goo) in the entire engine even the lifters locked up and rusted into the head in under 5000 miles (she bought it brand new).

I bought the car from them and decided it was more prudent to replace the engine than fix that one (after spending about 20 hours trying to get the lifters out of the head and only removing 2 and it being a huge mess)

Anyways, I don't remember all the specifics (this was in about 1977/78 when I just was getting my license) and I had a very good family friend who helped with the entire project. He also knew "everything" and I just did what he said.
Engine mounts came from the donor car as did the transmission, and I think driveshaft and rear end. The shifter location through the tunnel was a little farther back so shifting into 2 and 4 the shifter rod would hit the tunnel opening so it was cut open a little bit

In the end I was happy enough with the car and thankfully I didn't have to pay for a ton of labor since I couldn't have done it on my own. I kept it for 2 years before it started to rust then I bought a 69 fastback with 351W and a couple years later got a 1982 GT brand new and have bought all vehicles brand new ever since

Thanks for the info about the donor car! Sounds like a cool experience, I am close to getting my license while doing this project as well. Thanks for the cool story!
