going from 4.0 to???
ok I have a 2009 mustang v6 that's automatic im un sure of the rear end
I would like to step up to an engine that is injected and a modular engine. No mader what im doing a k member swap to chromolly and probably going with a upgraded 8.8 also probably going to convert it to manual, but im not sure what engine to go with to get 500 hp and having reliability consistantly? I know their is the 4.6 and 5.0 that seemingly have an unlimited ammount of options and are far cheaper than the 5.4 or 5.8L the 4.6 im un sure about the 5.0 but with the 4.6 can be boltey in the 4.0's k member I know that obviously I would need to change the harness and computer but they make some good computer with harness swap kits or again the junk yard so what would you sugest I would like to hit 500+ with forced induction so turbo or supercharged is fine but supercharged would seem like a quicker install? so give me some ideas please

well your v6 is fuel injected and a modular motor.
The modular's IIRC all have the same connecting points to K-members, the bell-housing may be the same but will need a second opinion.
For 500+hp your looking at a forged 4.6 with FI, a 5.0 may be able to reach it with extensive work short of fi, but its just alot easier to go FI.
I dont recall any aftermarket harness/ecu kits so pulling a stock harness/buying new is your best option

well I definantly plan on going with a nother modular engine I just was not too sure on what the 4.6 could handle do you know if they come in 2 and 4 bolt main options? and either way I would like to go with a light stronger chromolly k member and probably a beefed up 8.8? and yes also going with a new harness they make some prety nice kits that have everything new : ] and im thinking maybe getting a rotating assembly that's forged and a top end kit set up with a compression ratio for forced induction and the supercharger kit unless a good deal comes up on a total assembly? o yes and a snow stage 3 kit!

almost everything I have read as I am planning on a turbo 3v is the stock bottom end on a 3v can handle 500hp on a safe tune and maybe a little more with out pushing it. Those that have gone higher have had a really good tuner and watched the boost levels. The ones who did not have that usually had their engines not last that long. If you are ever in doubt about if the bottom end can handle the hp number, spend the money now and buy or build a good bottom end.
Also the rear end in our s197 v6 cars will not handle the power, you will have to find a 8.8 from a GT and swap it over. I currently have a 2005 v6 that I got a great deal on that is why I am looking to do a 4.0 to 3v swap. You will need a lot of parts so if you can find a donor car that would be best. If you can save the money sometimes you can find deals, I found one on ebay a guy was parting out a GT500 and had the engine, trans, ecu, all harness(engine, trans, body and dash) along with fuel pumps and wiring exhaust and everything else for a swap for 14k. That is my actual goal but I know I will get impatient and end up with a turbo 3v. lol

yeah that's why like I said the new and with warranty forged bottom end from mmr seemed like a good buy and I was thinking about maybe a rear end like this?

but again im not sure what the hP raiting is on this rear end, even if it was up graded with quality alloy axles from moser or something like that? And then again brings me to another question would I be better off going with a moser rear end? I still like the bolt in option of the 8.8
