Post Basics of building a differential

Hey all,

I'm COMPLETELY new to the whole field of differential building...just never had the need before. I swapped in a T5 on my II and the 3.00 gears are going to have to go. That being said, I'm not making crazy power (maybe 300 HP) And this is going to be a daily driver. I'm on a college student's budget.

What do I need to put in 3.8 gears in the stock 8" rear end?

How much is it going to run me?

where is the best place to get parts?

Thanks!

Give Quick Performance a call at (641)-751-8060. Ask for Brydon he handles their online sales stuff. Very reasonable prices. I got the Traction Lock Unit and Timken Bearing kit for $415. The 4.11 gears were $178 from Jeg's. Those prices were for the 8" rear that I just bought. Order yourself a copy of a rear end rebuild/modification manual. I haven't started my build yet if I had I could share the stories with you....I'm a bit nervous about it truthfully...but I'll be alright. Just have to take my time and check and re-check.
