Shelby's Mustang
#21
Dave,
Is that a 28oz imbalance engine (what was in the MII.....non-HO 302)? If so, I have the bellhousing and 141-tooth flywheel you need that came off of the '76 Cobra. If you want, you can swing by the shop and grab them.....I'll donate them to Shelby's cause.
If it is a HO engine, you'll need a 50oz imbalance flywheel and a 157-tooth bellhousing and flywheel (I looked and looked but couldn't find a 50oz 141-tooth flywheel). If that is the case, I used a 50oz 157-tooth flywheel and a 157 tooth bellhousing from a '66 Mustang 289/C4 when I dropped the 302EFI into the '76 and kept the C4.
So, if you want to swing down by the shop sometime (on McKinley @ Capital) you can have the MII flywheel and bellhousing.

UPDATE- but no pics right now. First, a HUGE thanks to rjpkrp!!. I stopped by his shop and drooled over some cars and he hooked me up with the MII bellhousing I needed and a front spoiler that I think will work. so thanks!
No real build progress, but I've been procuring parts...
Trac loc for the rear end, 302 engine, cam, lifter, timing set, valve covers, intake, carb, plug wires, front bushings, 5 lug rear axles.
Will hopefully get the 5 lug front conversion this weekend (Depends on $$)
So now that I have parts I can get to work- plan on doing the front & rear suspension bushings first, then the 5 lug swap. After that, the V6 out and get the 302 assembled and dropped in. Luckily the body is really straight so the only bodywork is getting the spoilers attached and molded in. Then we can do the interior and electrical.
Hoping to get a lot done in the next two weeks.

So another update on our never-ending project. Actually- never-ending is not correct. It is closer to 'never-starting'... I don't know how summers get more busy, but they do. But I've been collecting parts...
Valve covers, plug wires, air cleaner, intake and carb... total cost $400- I love craigslist :-)
new cam & lifters- summit racing :-)
5 lug conversion for the front from Speedway motors
8" Trac loc diff- from a MII facebook group member
new flywheel as well- summit racing
not pictured are some good sport mirrors, shifter, front spoiler, rear spoiler.
So I have begun on the mechanical updates. I'll post more pics after the weekend progress :-)
On order are new carpet, weatherstrip and headliner. Also on the way are new T-Top trim (The targa band mounts drilled through the T-Top trim, leaving holes in it) so I got some new trim from a non targa car, and a hood scoop. Still need to find some better front seats that won't break the bank. I want to find something a bit taller than the low back seats in the car. I still need to redrill the rear axles to 5 lug and order the rear disc brake calipers/mounts (Speedway) and a master cylinder.
Shelby is still enthused, but tempered by the realization that my time is so limited. She takes her driving test in a few weeks after she gets the last of her night driving hours. So she'll get to drive my big *** truck for a bit.

Nice Dave! Hang in there, it always seems like there is little to no progress, than all of the sudden (BAM!) things are coming together! I'm hoping to have Cole's on the road by next Summer. He's got his learners permit and darn near all of his hours (not sure what Michigan requires but Indiana is 50 hours with 10 night) but he can't test for his license until next Sept!
As far as seats go, I'm going to have an estimate on the original seats for recovering in vinyl, but I'm afraid it is going to run much more than I want to spend so I'm looking at these, which Cole says are fine with him, which will be about $280 for the pair shipped to our area.

We've made a bit of progress since you were last out here.....got base/clear on the car!
Here's a couple of small pics:
Still have a long, long way to go though. I've still got those vented rear windows and when I decide that I no longer need them you've got first right of refusal if you're sill interested in them.

Rjpkrp- that looks great. It'll be about opposite of ours. Shelby's will be a burnt orange with black stripes. Those seats look a bit too tall to me. Have you tested them in a II yet? let me know, or if you have them at the shop I'll swing by after work one day.

Those ebay seats are 35" tall. The factory seats (with headrest) are 30" tall. So you are really only adding about 5" (with as low as the MII seats are you've plenty of room). However, I've changed my mind about the seats and decided that I don't want him to ride around full time with racing style seats (they aren't the most comfortable). I think I'm going to go with the Pro90 seats with headrests. It'll run me more than the ebay seats, but I think in the long run, they will look more period correct and be vastly more comfortable. They are about 31" tall with headrest. I'm going to use the MII frames/slider.

Wish I had someplace we could try them. Lane only carries the Pro-Car brand, no others. I'll see more at PRI Show in dec, but that is probably too late.
Yes, would still like the tip out quarter windows if you don't use them.

Dave,
The Pro-90 seats are ProCar seats. I wonder if Lane has them in stock so you can see them. They have other styles too, I just liked the Pro-90 with headrest since they look like they could have come in the II. ProCar Seats
I had called Jegs to see about the ProCar seats but ended up buying the Jegs branded seat that was very similar. Jegs Muscle Seat The dimensions and look are very similar to the ProCar seat, but it was less expensive (even when buying the Pro-90 wholesale). I should have them at the shop by Tuesday, but I'm not sure when I'll have the MII sliders/frame on it. When I do, I'll stick one of them in and shoot a pic for you (or you can swing down and see it for yourself).
