ORIGINAL: 05Retro

I'm a Chevy guy from the late 60's. I had a number of Vettes, Chevelles, Camaros, and even a Vega. I now own an 05 Mustang GT as my toy. I think the new Camaro is also too futuristic looking. GM hasn't produced a really nice muscle car in a long time. The SSR was a flop, the GTO was another abortion, and I think the new Camaro will fall to the same demise also. The one thing that I see might kill all these cars again is these HorsePower Wars. In the early 70's not only emisisons killed these types of cars but also insurance rates for HighPerfomance Cars. I know when I was young I always wanted more go too, but now I hope this doesn't send this new generation into extinction because of insurance costs. Chevy should forget the Camaro and build an awesome Retro 67 Chevelle. I also don't think Chevy will compete price wise with the Mustang everything they make is for the Rich and Famous. May be thats why there in so much trouble.

I 'm also a Chevy guy...had a'69 when I was 16. Then on to Nova, (2) Monte Carlo's, '55, '57, and some p/u's. Show me a '69 retro Yenko, SS/RS, or Z/28 and I'm there. I've been a huge critic of the new Camaro's looks but I just read something which is food for thought. Apparently some auto industry insiders predict a much more modern looking Mustang in the next redesign. They suggest the retro look is good for a short term market grab but will not sustain sales over time. If that's true this new Camaro will be a design that's more on par with where the Mustang will be in 2009-2010. I'm no industry analyst, but that was the first explanation of the Camaro's design strategy that made some sense. Time will tell if they're right and if the market will warm up to the new design the way it has to the new Stang.

If they go with a newer looking stang in the next version I will sh i t my pants and throw it on the designers. The best stangs have always been the classic muscle looking ones.

I think it's inevitable that the mustang will evolve back towards a more aerodynamic contemporary car as time goes on. But I think the next gen Mustangs (in 2009-2010) will probably still have some noticeable retro genes showing. As far as the new Camaro concept, well..........lets face it ppl.....its just a concept. Look at the concept mustangs that came out before the S197's hit production..........quite a bit of change since then huh? Who knows how the new Camaro's will look in relation to their concept form when they hit the streets.

I say get rid of the Silverado sized bowtie on the grill and put some 4th gen inspired tail lamps on there.......that would be a really good start. Then do away with the chop top and give the forward quarters more "hips". The concept is a good start. And I won't lie........from a straight up front profile it looks mean as hell. But there a few of the designers ideas that just don't wash very well. Overall, the current concept looks too much "Cadillac meets Corvette". When you look at this car you should be able to tell, without any help from emblems and such, that this is a CAMARO. That directive should be GM designers' top priority going into the production design.

I don't think the performance side of things needs to be addressed. I think we all know that GM will make sure the new Camaro is hell on wheels. My only concern is how much is it gonna set someone back to get behind the wheel of this kind of performance?

I had a '69 SS/RS, and it was great. But this new "thing" dont even come close to resembling it. And it has an agressive, if a bit "insane" look on its grill. Thumbs down for me. However, that new Challenger is almost enough to get me to trade in the Stang. Its near perfect and in some ways, looks better than the originals. Leave it to GM to mess up a wet dream. [:'(]

Well from what I know the base model will carry the LS2. However the SS model which will be introduced one year later will have a somewhat detuned LS7 from the C6 z06.
