I think it's just a limited few that buy a car because of the name not the looks. As others have said, R.I.P.
I thinkmore people bought it because it was the only new V8 RWD performance car that GM offered besides the vette and they couldnt buy a new F-body.

i liked the new GTO. It was a very nice car in general. The exterior of the car isnt really all that bad, and i really dont mind it. I would actually love to have the 6.0 GTO. I wouldnt trade it for the stang but it would bea nice car to own.

If you go back and look at photos of the GTO's from the early to mid sixties you might see that they were not too good looking. They just didn't excite me like the Mustangs, Camaros and Chargers.
While the new charger isn't doing too much exciting, even with the Hemi, the new Challenger will! Lucky for the Stang it will be overpriced. I'm guessing one fully loaded will be over $37,000...

Being a car fanatic and wanting some reliable transportation too, in addition to my 66 Mustang, I looked at the GTO when it first came out. GM screwed up the introduction of this car - they did not have enough of them to go around to the dealers and the dealers that had them wanted $ 5,000 markups. I ended up buying an Acura TL, even though I was eligible for GM employee discount. When dealers finally started getting cars in volume, the interest died down & they ended up sitting on lots. Other problem they had was gas guzzler tax on automatics. The GTO's looked like well put together cars and the price was right except for the dealer markup. The dealers did not do GM any favors by trying to gouge the buying public.

I agree. While I am a big mustang fan, I did test drive an 05 GTO back before I ordered my GT. But I really didn't give it alot of consideration as they had it stickered for just about 36K...............a bit too far out of my price range. Those cars do have a fantastic interior though, it would have been a great deal at maybe 30-31K. But I just couldn't afford it.

37k? Hahaha try again......first production run is supposedly going to be 30-40k only......so figure the Challenger to cost the same as a Mustang GT500.....around 50k or more.....All the production info that can be found says this car will be a V8 only car....and quite possibly only a 6.1 SRT-8 powered version....

And, you can buy a 30k Charger/300C and be dead even with a Mustang GT.....despite the car being 600lbs heavier....

you mean the R/T charger? no way mang, they're over half a sec slower than the new GT on the 1320.

Yeah, the new GT is indeed faster then the R/T Charger, but I was looking at it from a comparison of auto vs. auto....

That said, the difference is the transmission alone.....take the slushbox out of an LX car.....and it's lights out. It's one reason why I may be considering a G8 instead of a 300C.......6spd manual....
