Why the 4.0?
#11
Really wish Ford would have just upgraded the old 3.8 pusrod, instead of the new 4.0 SOHC. The power curve of that little pushrod was much more attractive than the SOHC. Added, the engine would be lighter and have smaller heads, meaning you could add more equipment in the engine bay.
and the 4.0L wasn't built for the Mustang crowd, it was built for the Tractor crowd a long time ago.

The SOHC 4.0L was first used in 1997, and the OHV 4.0L was first used in 1990. It is by no means specifically designed for the Mustang. The reasons why it is being used in the Mustang is because it's reliable, readily available, cheap to build, and its' power delivery better suited for a muscle car than a twin cam high revving V6. None of Fords more powerful V6 engines are designed for RWD applications, so in order to use those they'd need some heavy redesigning. Take GM for example and look at how long it took them to put a V8 into the W-body's. The reason why the 4.0L takes so well to boost is because it's over-engineered for reliability for truck duty.
