Blame the government's new MPG requirement- supposedly in effect by 2016. At this time, the Mustang will NOT be getting the new 5.0L. It is currently only slated for the F-150.

The new 39MPG requirements for 2016 (I dont know if thats even an ACTUAL requirement yet, or if it's still an idea floating around) are for............2016. That means Ford can put a 5.0L, 6.2L engine in any car they want until 2016. That's 7 years away and 7 years from now technology will be a lot more advanced than it is today even. By that time Ford will probably have a big engine that does produce the right emissions and MPG requirements.
I'm almost 100% sure that the "Boss" with that big 'ol engine will be in a Mustang... why wouldn't it be? Ford knows what people want and they know that a Boss would be a big seller amongst enthusiasts.
I'll see if I can find it and post the link, but I clearly remember reading an online article about the upcoming Raptor with a Ford engineer saying the 6.2 was not going into the Mustang because it didn't physically fit. So, if there's a shred of truth to this (and I wouldn't be surprised...we're talking about a beefy motor here), the Mustang would have to undergo a redesign in order to accomodate this new "Boss" motor.
Hope this sheds some light on things.

Get off your high horse 83ragtop. It's people like you that turn these forums into trash.
Gburke, I don't really trust what a BLOG says. When I left Ford, the 5.0L was ONLY slotted for the F-150. Who the ^&*$ knows- Ford could change their minds... again.
Maxshuty, I did consider this a possibility. Afterall, there was supposed to be a 2009 Mustang BOSS. Ford could use the 5.0L for a few years before Obama and the government tightens their grip with the green cars.
Autoblog really isn't a "blog" at all... it's a full blown automotive news site. It was reported on other sites as well... but it's true that it is all subject to change.

Lesson time kiddos!
The new MPG requirements are NOT per vehicle. They are per fleet. Here's an example:
Ford Mustang GT = 26 mpg
Ford Fusion Hybrid = 50 mpg
= 38 MPG average
And that's all Ford needs 7 years from now. It can still have the Mustang, as long as there's fuel efficient cars to balance the efficiency of their total lineup.
