No, the "Coyote" is an all new motor.....not a Ford Racing crate motor reworked for the streets. If that were the case, the 4V 5.0 model would probably cost more than the GT500.

I wonder if the 5.4 will stay in the gt500 or if they will just use a sc'ed version of the 5.0.

For now they are keeping the 5.4. But I've read numerous times that they are looking to replace the 3V 5.4 truck motors with the new 6.2, and the GT500's 4V 5.4 with the new 5.0. We'll see.

Default Lets pull our collective heads out of elation for a moment.

Back to reality, the new 5.0 will be amazing I am sure, but let us not give gm and dodge too much credit on thier engines just yet. A stock mustang gt with the 4.6 will out perform a challenger r/t. Not bad when the challenger is 1.1 liters larger. The only way for a challenger to out perform the mustang gt is to purchase the srt8 package, wich is a completely different animal. As for the camaro why would gm offer 2 different engines in the ss package, you think that they would have the ls3 in the ss and the l99 in the z28 or vice versa. They cant figure this out because they cant even balance thier preverbial check book, they are still counting thier obama bucks. All in all even the current s197 gt has the best bang for the buck. GM and chrysler will allways trail ford in the pony car category simply because they cant build a car that financially viable for the american public to purchase. Thier cars are heavy. I have driven all 3 cars. I like the looks of the challenger r/t (not going to pay 15,000 more for the srt8) but inside is like a family sedan. The camaro ss with the ls3 is also a very nice car but like the dodge it is HEAVY and does not drive like a muscle car should. The driver of a performance car wants to feel the road in his hands and in the seat of his pants. Sorry about the rant but come on people GM and Chrylser are attempting to restructure them selves into viable companies again by bringing out thier "hero cars" from the past, while ford on the other hand never went away.

from a builders standpoint, now i'm kinda rolling my eyes. Yeah my new edge GT only has 2Vs and came with 260 horse stock....but it doesnt cost a good 5k (lowballing it) to get heads/cams swapped.

my understanding is this is a 4V motor right? what does a set of cams go for a 4V? 1500? and a set of nicely ported heads? $3000? It would be nice to be able to build a big power mustang without automatically needing to throw on a nitrous kit and/or boost. I'd like a beastly NA mustang for once...

not for nothing, but a cam for a challanger or camaro is 600-700 bucks if you push it, and that usually put them right back into smackin-a-mustang territory...

so even though this motor may still be a beast at first, mod for mod, dollar for dollar, I bet we still lose the overall battle.

Is there anywhere that actually proves this thing will have 400 hp or is it all speculation since it's just a prototype engine right now?

Its speculation and nothing is in stone these days.......Hell I was just reading a thread that has a link from MSN that the 5.0L will only go in the F-150 and NOT in the stang for 2011......

A DOHC motor for a mass production truck line????? Someone's smoking some good s**t........either the author of that thread or the beancounters at Ford (if that's true). This motor has already been photographed in the enginebay of a new Mustang. If anything, there's no place other than the Mustang that the 5.0 should be starting out in. But yea, as you said............lots of hearsay, speculation, rumor, and storytelling going on with this "Coyote" critter.
