Is this a good deal?
So, recently my car was hit by a drunk driver while it was parked in front of my boyfriend's house. I'm a college student and drive a 1996 Saturn SL1 5-speed. (Yes, it's a POS. I know.) The guy who hit my car doesn't want me to go through his insurance, although I have his information and can if he decided to puss out on me, and offered me cash to fix my car with. If we would have gone through insurance, my car would be totalled. The quotes came in at anywhere from $2000-$2500 to fix all the body damage he did. Until now, we were planning to fix my car.
Last night, a friend of my grandmother's told us that she would sell me her 1997 Mustang V6 Coupe for $2500 if I wanted it. She can no longer drive it because she's too large to fit behind the steering wheel. She is the only owner of the car, it is in almost perfect physical condition, has never had any mechanical problems and only has 34,xxx miles on it. It's an automatic.
It's smaller than my current car, gets worse gas mileage (mine gets about 35mpg) and my insurance would go up. Plus, I would love to continue driving a manual. Obviously, the Mustang is a large step up from my Saturn overall. I think I'm going to do it, but I wanted some opinions from Mustang owners on the reliability and quality of this car before I made my decision.
Any thoughts?

You need to go through insurance!!! Dont let this drunk driver get away with it! The next time he could hit a car full of people. With that said, I think coming to a mustang forum asking if a Mustang would be better that a Saturn....I think we might go with the Mustang. As for that cars quality...that year doesnt have any big problems you should be looking at, it is a good car. But the best section to ask this in would be the v-6 section, not "Rumors and Discussion" section.
