Default Camaro #'s vs Mustang #'s

Some fresh Camaro stats from MororTrend's first road test

V6 Auto V6 Manual
0-60 in 6.0 0-60 in 5.9
V8 Auto V8 Manual
0-60 in 4.6 0-60 in 4.7

1/4 in 14.6 1/4 in 14.4
1/4 13.1 1/4 in 13.0

Braking, 60-0 106 ft 107 ft 107 ft 105 ft Lateral g 0.93 g 0.93 g 0.9 0g 0.90 g
I guess not as bad as I thought but .5 in a lot in the 1/4 for a car thats costs the same as a track pack Mustang...

What do you guys think compared to the 2010 GT's we know?

Everything I've read in the passed 4-5 months have had about the same numbers including an 6 month old magazine at my barber shop that said the camaro V6. did 0-60 in 6.1 but they were hoping to bring it down to 5.9. The v8's were the same numbers as they are today (4.6 or so).

I think the power is great but that wasn’t enough to make me change my mind a couple weeks ago on still going with the Mustang GT. I went for the whole package instead of getting caught up in the whole "Camaro SS will blow the doors off Mustangs by .5 seconds to 60". I think its great they can and they are both great cars. I know that half a second may mean the world to some people for various reasons but for the average buyer I think they're looking at the big picture, personal preference, and price tags.

I finally got to see a new Camaro up close at the local car show here in Richmond last week and I have to admit it was pretty impressive. I'm persoanlly still ticked there is no Firebird but with GM's ills I'm sure that isnt even on the list of things they are worried about.
Ford had a new Stang in attendance as well but some unearthly reason they had it locked. The car was also a very bright powder blue color which I cant say was the most appealing. The interior looks gorgeous compared to the last model and I think as soon as some of the sportier models hit the showroom there will be big interest. Even if the Camaro offers all the great hardware, if it doesnt look any more aggressive sitting there as this car did then it will suffer the same fate as the GTO...great mechanicals under a lukewarm skin. If it fall under looks alone, I think the new Stang with its upscale exterior will be the final winner.

Damn't I still havn't got to see one up close. I went to a "new car" auto show and they had everything (including the ugly ass puke gold looking color mustang gt) except the camaro. I'm pretty pissed cause I really wanted to check one out close up.

The above link is from Edmunds. Its from 3/20/09 and marks the mustang GT and Camaro SS times very close with Camaro very very slightly faster. Good article and vid.

I find it hard to believe that the V6 camaro is that much faster to 60 than my V6 stang. The camaro weights more and the extra horsepower is eaten up by the massive weight difference. Please let me know if I am wrong.

You're wrong. The difference in weight does not make up for the 90hp difference. Generally 100lbs=10hp

Look at the trap speeds on the quarter mile.

Edmunds got a 13.0 at 110.9 MPH... which to me indicates that it will be capable of somewhere around 12.5 give or take.

Oh well. I still won't trade my 'stang for a camaro. Can't be right all the time.
