Hyundai Genesis video Tribute to 45th Anniversary of Mustang, tribute or challenge?

IMO even if it were a twin-turbo 490HP Cobra killer, at the end of the day when you pull in your garage and step out of the car only to turn and look back at it...its still a Hyundai. The only time I'd feel good about it is when I look across the street to see my neighbors KIA.

The "its still a hyundai" excuse won't last too much longer IMO. I went and looked at a 3.8 track model, and the thing was damn nice. Interior quality exceeded my Mustang, and it felt about as fast as my stock Mustang. It's a nice car by any standard, especially for the price. The ONLY complaint I had was the clutch engaged entirely too high. I've seen the mags complain about this, so I'm willing to bet by next year they will have fixed it.
I just hope Ford wakes up soon. These new V6s are pretty much on par with the GT power wise stock-for-stock.

For God's sake, there have ALWAYS been 6 cylinder models that perform equally to, or outperform Fords v8 in power from the factory.
Generally they are more expensive to modify and harder to work on.
This car is no different.
It's not going to cut into Mustang sales even if it compared to them.

The car has a better chance of targeting V6 Mustang sales than the V8. There are 2 different buyers IMHO.
This car should do well against the 370Z and various "pocket rockets" like the Mazdaspeed3, Civic SI and VW GTI. I've now driven all of these in the past few weeks, and I have to say, that Hyundai still has me scratching my head. It by far had a nicer interior than anything except for the GTI maybe, and being equipped with a nice set of Brembos, a Torsen limited-slip and RWD in a loaded to the nuts package for $27-$31k MSRP (which you'd never pay) is tempting. They also have a better warranty which factors in if its non-modded a daily driver.
I've read a couple of comparos where they put the V6 Genesis against the G37 coupe and the Genesis rated very high. In all cases the G37 technically "won" the comparos, but when you consider the car costs 50% more, the measly few "points" the Genesis lost on, start to fade away. None of the gripes are worth the premium. I've seen a couple of the writers say they'd buy the Hyundai and pocket the other $15 grand.
Anyhow, I'm still in the middle of my new daily driver search, but so far I'm down to either a Civic Si sedan (which had the best manual trans/clutch I've ever driven in my 20 years behind the wheel), or the Genesis Track model (probably the 2.0T, I like turbos ).

Yeah thats what I'm thinking man. The ONLY hesitation I have with the thing is that resale value will probably suck. Even though Hyundai is on par in quality and reliability, user sentiment is still overwhelmingly negative about the brand. I think this will fade in time as they put out more and more products like this, but its clear it'll take another 5-10 years. I haven't ruled this one out yet, and I may wind up grabbing one here shortly. I could care less what anyone thinks about the badge on the hood, I have nobody to impress. I'm more interested in the substance of the car. I've driven plenty of piles of crap that had so-called more respectable nameplates.
