I saw that car at a show, maybe 35 years ago. Styling trends hadn't changed by quite as much at that time as they have since, so it didn't look quite as unusual.
They could have developed it into a two-seat mid-engine Corvette fighter, but then again it would have never sold a million copies in under two years that way. And we probably wouldn't be having this discussion here.
