Not at all sir. I'm simply doubtful of all the rumors and I'd like to get hard evidence before I can accept them as true. I love my car. If I wanted 400 Hp then I'd supercharge it. Which I will eventually once I get bored of the 315.

It will also get better MPG than the current 4.6L and 5.4L engines.
I read somewhere it's supposed to get similar gas mileage to the current 5.4L
I don't know whether that's a good thing or not; sure the 5.0 has loads more power, but it also has 30 less C.I., so shouldn't it get better mileage....especially with that DOHC?

Yeah, it should get better mileage than that. If Chevy managed to get 24mpg out of the 6.2, then surely Ford can do better with the 5.0. Then again, I've heard a lot of people who own an automatic 2010 Camaro SS complain that the L99/LS3 has been effectively neutered to get those numbers. But I'm sure Ford can do better.
Multiple posts and a full thread don't prove a thing. Everything is just speculation. For all we know your source is full of it. Taking the 4.6 away will be a stupid move on Ford's part. They can kiss their GT sales goodbye when people see the price go up and the gas mileage drop. Don't get me wrong, a 5.0 400 HP GT would be amazing. However, darwin06 brings a valid point. Ford doesn't build their models to win races, they build them to sell cars. When they do want to build a car to win the race that is when you see your Terminators or Cobra R's or GT500's. Pretty much the entire history of the Mustang has been a base model, GT model, and a performance model for the horsepower junkies. Affordable muscle, that's what Ford is all about.
This really doesn't make much sense. As noted, the 4.6 is ending production, so where is the motor for the 2011 GT going to come from if you're claiming it *won't* be the 5.0?
And why are you so certain the price will go up if the GT does in fact get the 5.0?

The L99, possibly. The differentiation between the motors is the L99 has cylinder deactivation whereas the LS3 doesn't.

Well, if you ignore the rumors and look at the facts, i.e. the 4.6 is leaving production, and Ford's intent to put the 5.0 in Mustang with the pictures to prove it. I don't think you can come to any other conclusion other than the GT will be getting the 5.0.

Even if the price of the Mustang GT doe's go up, they have $3000 to play with to be cheaper than the Camaro SS. They could put in the new engine, and still be considerably cheaper than the competition. Faster in a straight line, faster around corners, and cheaper? That will sell cars alone. Hell, I'm already planning on buying one in 2011
And theres still the possibility that the price won't go up. If the 5.0 replaces both the 4.6L and 5.4L in the Mustang, Explorer, F150....Thats some serious cutbacks in production costs. Instead of having two factories build the 4.6 & 5.4, they'll have one factory to build the 5.0
Ronney, the 4.6L isn't a bad engine by any means. But when you compare it to the larger displacement engines in the Camaro SS(6.2L) and the Dodge Challenger(5.7L) it is inferior; simply because it lacks the HP/TQ.
Even though the 5.0L is still a smaller engine, it has the king of valves DOHC. So instead of 315hp out of 281 c.i. , it has 400hp out of 302 c.i. (or whichever C.I. Ford is using) Instead of 34hp above C.I. (in the 4.6) it has 98hp above C.I. And those numbers right there, embaress the hell out of the competition.

hmm isn't it the mustang GT that wins all of those auto-x and drift races? ford focus winning rally quite a bit... bleh.. winning races is what sells performance minded cars. just because they aren't the fastest cars ford produces doesn't mean they aren't designed to compete in races.
alright.. that should be enough of picking on ronny2010gt he is just mad he bought a 2010 then found out these were coming saying you can s/c to get to 400hp is laughable.. when you will probably be able to s/c the new one and handle nearly an extra 100hp than the 2010s (you can get the 400bhp with just bolt ons anyway.. maybe need cams too, but i'd rather get a 2011 5.0)
