Its all in your perpective of the situation. "To be fair" .. the current Mustang GT was never meant to compete against the 2010 Camaro SS because for the last 9 long years Chevrolet didnt have a Camaro .. so in 2005 Ford put in a "respectable" engine in which not to their fault .. only then after their great success did other American automakers begin think about doing their retro versions. Ford has done something right.. they've always killed Camaro in yearly sales and they never had to stop selling them. Depending on what news you read Camaro is selling well, but not as well as they hope.
I honestly to be a H U G E GM/ Chevrolet fan ( Ive owned 5 GM vehicles in the past ) but they betrayed the fans when they quit making the Camaro IMHO. Only after losing tons of money did they cosinder using the Camaro to get back some old fans.
I have read more then one comparison of the base 4.9Liter Mustang GT against the 2010 Camaro SS - And yes Camaro won, but not as much as you'd think because the Camaro is so heavy. Ford showed a 300hp V6 off and has said plans are solid for a 400hp 302 smallblock for next yrs GT. Being both the V6 and V8 base Mustangs are around 500 lbs lighter then then Camaro .. next year things will be pretty much even with Mustang having the slight advantage.
"Extremely unfair comparison in my book. It should have been the Dodge RT Challenger against the Mustang GT against the Camaro SS. We all know who would have been the winner of that one!"
I agree, and to add to that Edmunds took the best/top of the line model from each of the big 3's musclecar lineup and put them head to head. If GM hasn't or isn't going to release the Z28 then too bad, the SS is the best they have to offer and it will have to compete with the best Ford has to offer in the same category. And before we go there the GT500 is not in the same category as the Vette or Viper.
