What I really want is a 2011 Vista blue GT500 convertible, with no stripes, supersnake wheels and hood.

just the color you wanted alone will be a no-go for you since the only dark blue available in 2011 is gonna be Kona Blue

I think you should remind folks about the differences in base prices for the different years. You could have a $6,000 difference between the 2005's and the 2010's.
For folks who are going to fully mod the car the 2010's upgrades become extra weight.

I have to agree with you Matafy, the '10 shaved tail lights are just wrong....the front however makes me smile!!

I haven't investigated that teck differences yet, I'd like to know what the major ones are...

With about $2k in mods on my '06 GT I can honestly say I've never driver anything like it...fun fun fun....!!!

I paid $20k and the car is in show room condition. The '10s here on Maui run around $40k.....I'm not planning to invest the $20k differnce between the two but imagine the possibilties...!!!!

I've never owned a Mustang until I recently bought one (back in July). I test drove a 2009 and a 2010. As far as handling goes, I got a Pony package V6 because the steering seemed much tighter. Although the back end isn't what people are used to it looks fine to me. I think the lines of the 2010 look way better. Better front end, better hood. What really sold me though was the interior. I was considering other cars (Volvos, BMWs, etc.) and I bought the 2010 Mustang because the interior is friggin' beautiful!

After owning Honda/Acura exclusively since '85, I was curious to test drive a Mustang after all the good press in the auto mags.

The local dealer had several '09's as well as '10's. I test drove both. While the new '09's were really being pushed with significant discounts, I bought a 10 GT.

Better interior, better sound (mechanical) and a better overall feel.

I never thought an American car would make me forget about Honda/Acura, but I am duly impressed. The overall feel of quality and the fun to drive factor caught me off guard.

Now, the difference between the '10 and '09 was not a lot, but enough to warrent the 4K difference in purchace price.

If your loking at a GT vs GT than the 2010 hands down. If your looking more at price you could get a used 05 GT500 for close to the same price as a loaded 2010 GT.

05-09, hands down. The '10 definately has a sweet interior but IMO, Ford blew it on the exterior. As far as the extra 15 CRANK HP advertised, that's just the tune. Put a CAI & tune combo on BOTH and they both turn the same crank HP.

There have been quite a few '10 bashing threads and I hope this doesn't go there.

+1 on the power "increase" - a CAI/tune evens it up since it is the same engine with a factory Bullitt tune. Also, everything under the sheetmetal(chassis, suspension, etc...) on the 2010 is the same as the 05-09s with 08-09 Bullitt shock and damper revising.

Now the 2011... that's a different story. There will definitely be a difference in power as the new 4-cam 32-valve 5.0 liter V8 will be a significant upgrade.

So to answer the OP's question...

I would buy a 2011 5.0 GT over a 05-09 4.6 GT
I would buy a 05-09 4.6 GT over a 2010 4.6 GT

I'm always curious about why people ask what others would do. Between your stated options (you didn't mention the '11) most everyone who owns an 05-09 is going to tell you to buy that and vice versa.

That being said, I'd buy the '10!
