There's just not enough cubes here.

I can see maybe 400 in good conditions, but that's it unless they're spinning the damn thing at 8K+. In that case, they'd need a very beefy valve-train which is something you're not going to see on a factory mustang unless it's a special SUPER EXPENSIVE fancy edition.

Ford is going to want to keep the cost as low as possible like they always have.

If I'm wrong, that's sweet. But I'm pretty sure I'm not.
Hopefully your wrong. How does BMW do it with their 4.4 litre in the X5? 320 HP..

Guys and Gals,

Look back at the past 30 years. Ford has never had the most powerful truck, the most powerful car or most power Mustang. But they always sell them and sell lots of them. This will not be any different. I don't know if the 4.6L will stick around or not. But I do know that the 5.0 will not be laying down 425 HP. History of FoMoCo tells you so. Even now, the Raptor 6.2 is at 400 HP and that is less than the big Chevy engine in their trucks.

I expect a 5.0 will be in the 350 - 380 range.

Even with the "little" 4.6 the 2010 is doing pretty well up against its competition.

5.0 with a DOHC and good flowing heads? Hell yeah! 400 ponies all day long.
That's without getting into hi-po cams, intake and everything else.

The 5.0 cammer that's in the FR500C is rated at 420 and 600 in the FR500GT.
All motor.

So where there's a will, there's a way...

I know the 5.0 CAN put down that kind of power. But Ford won't do it on the GT as a stock setup. I am very confident in that. It will either be less power in the GT or they will do a special BOSS edition. History is never wrong. Go back and show me where Ford did anything different in the past 30 years.

This answers somewhat post #12 as well...
Anything different you said...

Ford F150 Lightning (99 and up): Fastest truck on the market at the time, broke 140mph. Even Guiness mentioned it.
03 Cobra: Camaros were gone by then, but the 02 and even the 09 are slower.

Thanks to Coletti, Ford broke their trend there.

You do have a point though, History repeat itself and Ford always managed to not get hurt too much by Government bullschit.
The fun we've been having lately is coming to an end due to the pressure in dropping the engine size in domestic cars because of fuel economy that we have to answer to.
And if Bozo gets a second term, it's all over...

The Lightning and Cobra though are sort of like a BOSS special edition not like the bread and butter GT. But yes, these are two examples of Ford stepping outside the norm.

I would like to see Ford bring out a 425HP stock 5.0 GT. I just highly doubt (like 99% doubt) that they will. It makes more sense for them (given history) to launch a GT with a bump to say 350HP and then have a special BOSS edition.

Of course the big problem with the GT500 has been the big iron lump over the front axle. If they do the GT500 all aluminum 5.4SC than that will be really big improvement. That is the horse to watch. It will handle much better and still have 540HP! Sh*t howdy that will be a strong package.

I think also what is also interesting is the talk of a 300HP V6. I just don't see Ford doing that. I expect 275HP or something in that range. But with the new government of late, I also think the ecoboost will soon be the only way Ford will be able to make big HP in the Mustang. The future will look very different.....

I'm pretty sure this is what is going into the BOSS 5.0L and not the base GT that will continue to have the 4.6L

It will definitely be priced accordingly.

im with bloodshot on this one, I think the 5.0 is for the highly anticipated Boss model. And I think the 4.6L will stay with the 315HP or might just be bumped up slightly.

I think the 4.6 is gone. But the 400HP figure just seems too good to be true.

Then again, it seems everybody and their brother is getting a stiffy about the prospect of a 400HP Mustang. That's still WAAAAYYY down on power from something you can go buy right now (Shelby, Roush, etc.). I mean, it's not like this 400HP threshold hasn't been achieved.

Maybe folks are hoping for a stripper sub-$30K hot rod?

Its not a fact and my bro works for the Romeo engine plant and I will ask him if it indeed is reality.....he in the past said it wont happen for a base GT but you never know for upgraded models.

I moved this to the rumors and discussion section as this is all hearsay until it is on the showroom floor IMO....
