Default 2011 GT500

So we have the low down on the GT and V6, so whats in store for the 2011 GT500?

2010 Mustang V6
4.0-liter V6 210 hp and 240 ft-lb of torque

2011 Mustang V6
3.7-liter V6 305 hp and 280 ft.-lb of torque

+ 95 hp and 40 ft.-lb of torque

2010 Mustang GT
4.6-liter V8 315 hp and 320 ft-lbs of torque

2011 Mustang GT
5.0-liter V8 412 hp and 390 ft-lbs of torque

+ 97 hp and 70 ft-lbs of torque

2010 Ford Shelby GT500
5.4-liter SC V8 540 hp and 510 ft-lbs of torque

2011 Ford Shelby GT500
Aluminum 5.4-liter SC??? hp and ??? ft-lbs of torque
or
TT 5.0-liter V8 ??? hp and ??? ft-lbs of torque

The average hp increase was 96 and the average torque was 55, that puts the current 2010 GT500 numbers at 636 hp and 565 ft-lbs of torque for 2011. I don’t think the GT500 will have those numbers, but since its S197 introduction it has had roughly 200 hp over the GT. So will the 2011 GT500 have 600+? or a small 15 hp/tq bump?

Or none?
They might just get the aluminum block, but hey, that helps cut it's piggy curb weight, which makes it faster.

Yeah, it will get very little more in hp I would think. Maybe up to 550 to be nice. The 200 pounds off the nose will do AMAZING things to handling, braking, and acceleration. I think it will make a monumental difference without a huge hp increase. Maybe tougher engine tech means more modability/power potential as well, dunno. I just dont think it will get rated much higher.

I agree. Weight reduction and better suspension so it can lay what it already has to the ground without blowing the tires off. Keep in mind the Z06 only has 505 hp and runs almost 3/4 of a second faster in the 1/4 mile.

^Bingo

Considering the current GT500 has a hefty curb weight of 3950 lbs.
Yeah, weight reduction is the right way to go. She has plenty of power, now she just needs to go on Atkins for a little while..

Because then, the GT can do the same and match the GT500 mod for mod.
Screw that! The Cobra needs a different mill.

I'd be happy if they just switch over to an aluminum block.

I'd be doing everything I can to buy one if they switch over to a TT 5.0 =)
