About the required octane...
Who cares if you have to pay 20 cents more per gallon. It's still more efficient in the first place. It'll approximately cost you an extra 3 bucks at the pump when you top it off. If that is too much for someone, maybe they shouldn't be buying a brand new car, let alone a new mustang.

The 412 was with 91 Octane. Fords comment of not alot will be gain with mods I believe they mean within the constrains of emission legality. In other words short headers that do not move (or remove) the cats will not see gains or very small ones, but this is what the industry has been seening in the last few years on all the newer models. LT with a tune will still see the HP gain numbers of past.
