2014 Mustang Rumors

I think it would be a great idea for Ford to bring back the GT and i definitely dont think they could bring the tbird back to fill that spot, especially since the latest production version of the Tbird was basically aimed at the folks that may probably saw the original on showroom floors. It is known too much as a cruiser of a car to be considered big power performance like would be needed to combat the Vette

I'd love the GT to come back more than most, but I doubt that will happen. Last I check Ford didn't hold the right patents or licencing information or something like that.
From wikipedia:
A British company, Safir Engineering, who made continuation GT40s in the 1980s owned the GT40 trademark at that time, and when they completed production, they sold the excess parts, tooling, design, and trademark to a small Ohio company called Safir GT40 Spares. Safir GT40 Spares licensed the use of the GT40 trademark to Ford for the initial 2002 show car, but when Ford decided to make the production vehicle, negotiations between the two failed, and as a result the new Ford GT does not wear the badge GT40. It is rumored that Safir GT40 Spares asked $40 million for the rights, but this has never been verified. The partners at Safir GT40 Spares state they have correspondence from Ford declining Safir's $8 million offer. Early cars from the 1960s were simply named "Ford GT".

Umm......nothing in my post had anything to do with the Mustang. We're talking about a hypothetical 2 seater sportscar that Ford could build to compete directly with the Vette. My point was that a mass production version/variant of the Ford GT (possibly featuring a supercharged 4V 5.0) would fit the bill perfectly.

Well, I am looking forward to the Ann Ed. but pray to god it's nothing like this one:
I doubt Ford will be anything like Chevy, and give us a new color and badge calling it an Anniversary Package, seeing as Ford actually knows how to make money and stay above water. It's going to be hard to not buy a 5.0 and wait 4 years, or rather 3, though.
