Andy, you're from Illinois and you like the Packers? You don't root for Da Bears?! I'm originally from Illinois, too, but I've been a Packer fan all my life! [sm=grinangel.gif] "C"

P.S. Yeah, we suck this year, don't we? I just hope we beat the Panthers tonight, 'cause I live in NC now and some of my co-workers are goin' to the game! [&:]

I don't think SVT has dealers anymore (of course, they also aren't producing Cobras, Lightnings and SVT Foci anymore), at least not in the sense that you have to go to a SVT dealer to order a Shelby. I bet any Ford dealer can sell you a GT500. I also think your best chance to avoid gouging will be with small town dealers (who will likely not be able to qualify for one anyway) or huge corporate dealers where they have firm and fast rules against monkeying with pricing. Ford will allocate these cars to dealers based on sales of 2005 cars. Big dealers will get the lion's share, with the smallest dealers getting nothing unless they bump up production. (Lots of small town dealers got no more than 1 or 2 2005 Mustang GT's for this same reason, and they made a lot more Mustang GT's than they can make GT500's).

Car and Driver put a projected base price of $38,500 on the cars - and that's probably going to err a bit on the low side. $39,995 would be tolerable (and more likely). I've read the 7000 number too (I believe it was in an interview with wunderkind Tang), though my personal opinion is that it was a "total run" number rather than a yearly sales projection. Given that there are other plans for special option Mustangs for 2008, one suspects the 7000 number may need to stretch to at least 2 model years (07 & 08).

Also, I believe the 5.4 motors will have to be built by the special builders at the Romeo engine plant, and their production capacity is not huge in the dohc, hand-built line (assuming they intend to continue that SVT tradition on a non-SVT car). Has anyone heard that they will have the engine builder do the whole job and sign the engines like they did for SVT?

So, figure 3-4000 cars the first year - assuming no problems at Romeo or AAI (seems certain they'll be building these cars mixed in with the regular GT run).

I hope all this is wrong and they pour out 3 times as many cars, so I can get one cheap - yea, and that email from Nigeria that says I won the Irish sweepstakes is NOT a con...

I agree with whoever said that these cars will go for $20,000 over sitcker. I may could actually swing the $40,000 but no way the $60,000. I figure a lot of others are the same way. As far as the SVT dealers, I thought they still existed. However, Ford may do like they did with the GT and the dealership has to "qualify" for the opportunity to sell the vehicle. I'll be completely surprised if you see more than one GT500 at ANY dealership. As far as the model year, I'd bet it goes for at least 2-3 years given that there's going to be a coupe and a convertible.
