Why are some Mustang's headlights like this:



and why are most like this?



I thought it was certain year models but I don't know. Is the top one HID?

Some of them are HID from factory yes. Depends on what package the car came with I think.

the 05's and 06's had caps on over the bulbs to prevent glare. I am unsure why they stopped. I know that later model owners that want to add hids have to add the caps in order to prevent the extreme glare

the top pic is a HID light, i believe they were introduced in 2007 or 2008. and the bottom one is the standard bulb. HIDs were a $500 dollar that had to be ordered.

yes, the top one is the factory HID. Bottom ones are standard Halogen.

Top bulbs are the HID's and the lower picture is the standard bulb.

My 2008 GT has the HID's and they were a stand alone option for $525 on the MSRP label.

Ok....MY 2006 lights have the cap over the bulb like the pic on top. My car does NOT have HIDS. So I guess some 05/06 stands have them (mine is not the only non hid one I have seen with them) and the factory hids in 07 and later have them.

I have a question about 05-09 headlight differences as well. I had to replace the passenger side headlight and the one i bought that was used oem has a foam piece on the outside to seal the gap between it and the bumper, but the one that is still good and on the driver side doesn't have this. My dad called a ford dealer and they didn't know anything about there being a difference. What do most people have?

I can get pics of what im referring to if need be.
