Worry Not: Next Gen Mustang To Be All-American
#23
Well I hear what your saying but I own a 2009 mustangGT and I love it but...
I am not oblivious to it's short comings. First off how many European sedans have you driven and or checked out? My Mustang has all the looks over any thing form Audi or BMW but when it comes to building a well handling sedan with power and still a full back seat and a comfortable ride the Mustang comes up a bit short vs a BMW M or Audi RS. That said a Boss302 price/performance is much more of what you want in a performance car but day to day it is not as easy to live with then a RS or M3 the ride on a Boss302 is so stiff leads to great handling on track day but not a great ride of pot holed ride to work every day.
Part of the issue is that live rear axel to control all that unsprung weight leads to a vey stiff ride. Sure a M3 is much stiffer then a standard 3 series but still much better then a Boss302. Now I love my mustangs and part of it's appeal is it is NOT a M3 or RS cars tat have a reputation of being owned by shallow yuppies (I know old term but can't say *ssholes if you know what I mean) but I sure would not mind a bit of refinement to go along with the badAss looks and performance

About time. All tis "world-market will destroy the mustang" stuff was always preposterous. The REASON that muatangs are so popular over seas is BECUASE they represent American automobiles. Take away the Americana and you have no over-seas appeal. If Europeans want an MPG car they can buy a litany of very good DD cars. American cars are big (by euro standards) loud, powerful and gas guzzling (again by euro standards) Ford isn't stupid. They know this. This is the same reason that Mavericks have a HUGE following in Brazil 40 years after their production ended. Mustangs (specially classics) are on par with exotics down there as I understand it.
I do support the idea of a smaller 'stang. The lower weight will improve performance and MPG. And 315hp and 420hp are good numbers for the next mustang. MPG should be as follows: 3.7 with 35mpg and 5.0 with 30mpg. Direct Injection and lower weight should allow for this to happen.

What would I say to a smaller more global friendly Mustang?
Well, the Mustang isn't a global car, it's an American Icon, a hot rod. It doesn't have to be globally friendly....nor does it want to be.
Skinnydog put said it very well in post #7
